Local business holds blanket drive
Windermere Portland North is collecting Coats & Blankets for their annual
“Share The Warmth Coat & Blanket Drive.”From now until December 18,
2015 those who can are asked to drop off a new or gently used adult-sized coats
and/or twin-sized blankets to Windermere’s offi ce at 6110 N. Lombard, (Cor-
ner of Lombard and Wall Street.) They are are open Monday through Friday
from 9:00am until 5:00. For the less fortunate, these warm items are essential
during the winter months.

On Sunday November 1, 2015, at
1:01 a.m., North Precinct offi cers
responded to North Lombard Street
and Peninsular Avenue on the report
of a single vehicle crash into a power
pole. Offi cers and medical personnel
arrived and located the crashed green
1999 Ford Explorer on the north-
west corner of the intersection with
the driver still in the vehicle. A sec-
ond person, initially thought to be a
passenger in the vehicle, was found
deceased and lying in the westbound
lanes of the intersection. Offi cers
quickly learned that the second per-
son, 27-year-old Nicholas Glenn
Horsey of St. Helens, was a pedestri-
an struck by the driver approximate-
ly one block to the East of the crash.
Offi cers observed signs of im-
pairment on the driver, 21-year-old
Mathew Tyler Freeman of North
Portland, and learned from witnesses
that Freeman was driving at a high
rate of speed westbound on Lombard
prior to striking the victim and crash-
ing.
Investigators from the Traffi c Di-
vision’s Major Crash Team, Crimi-
nalists from the Forensic Evidence
Division as well as a Deputy District
Attorney from the Multnomah Coun-
ty District Attorney’s Offi ce respond-
ed to the scene.
Freeman was arrested on charges of
Manslaughter in the Second Degree,
Criminally Negligent Homicide,
Recklessly Endangering Another
Person, Reckless Driving, and Driv-
ing Under the Infl uence of Intoxi-
cants.
Freeman was booked into the Mult-
nomah County Jail and was arraigned
on Monday, November 2, 2015.
