He saw the building, talked to everyone and loved the people,” said Bob. The elder Le- veton had an independent spirit and his own way of doing things that matched the spirit of St. Johns according to Bob. Jerry was born in 1938 and Bob in 1942. Their parents, Ben and Jean ran the store and both sons have worked there from an early age. Community involvement has always been important to the Le- veton family. Their father was most proud of being one of the three business owners to start the Shirlee Ann Fund to acquire an emergency vehicle after 11 month old Shirlee Ann Howell died in 1955 due to lack of emergency transport. The three saw a need and made it happen without going through City Hall red tape. Bob says this “can do” attitude refl ects the personality of St. Johns. The Shirlee Ann Fund continues today to assist Fire Station No. 22 with needed equipment and training. Their father foresaw that the clothing business would move to- ward big box stores. Nonetheless, Bob, Jerry, along with Beth Preci- so and Denny Hassler are proud the shop has remained in business for 75 years and has found a niche of shoppers who prefer good cus- tomer service and shopping local. Beth also offers custom alterations and tailoring, a rare advantage among clothing stores. __________________________ “A classy shop with every- thing from jean jackets, tux- es, classic suits, shoes, ba- sic t-shirts, and $160 wool sweaters.” - Michelle H., Yelp - __________________________ Jerry, Beth and Denny work full time at the store and Bob works Tuesdays, Thursdays and some Saturdays.
