News Release Portland Police Bureau
Posted on FlashAlert: August 23rd,
2015 9:02 PM
On Sunday August 23, 2015, at
8:23 p.m., North Precinct and
Traffic Division officers respond-
ed to the report of a traffic crash
in the 6100 block of North Ma-
rine Drive involving a pick-up
truck driver and a motorcycle
rider. Officers and medical per-
sonnel arrived and began treating
the male adult motorcycle rider
and the male adult pick-up truck
driver, both who suffered traumat-
ic injuries. Attempts by officers
and medical personnel to save
the motorcycle rider’s life were
not successful and he died at the
scene. The motorcycle rider killed
has been identified as 20-year-old
Joshua Michael Terry. Investiga-
tors learned that Terry, along with
several other motorcycle riders left
Kelley Point Park and were riding
eastbound on Marine Drive. Ac-
cording to several witnesses, the
group of riders was traveling at
a high rate of speed, possibly ex-
ceeding 100 miles per hour, and
at least one rider was performing
a wheelie. Investigators were told
that the group of motorcycle riders
was part of a group called “Red
Door Meet,” which is a group of
motorcycle and car performance
enthusiasts. The pick-up truck
driver, 24-year-old Robert Somes,
was accompanied by a female
passenger and they too had left
Kelley Point Park and were head-
ing eastbound on Marine Drive,
ahead of the group of motorcycle
riders. Somes did a U-turn on Ma-
rine Drive to head back westbound
when Terry crashed into the side of
Somes’ truck, striking the driver’s
door area. The impact of the crash
killed Terry and injured Somes.
The investigation is continuing
and no arrests or citations have
been issued. Upon completion of
the investigation, the Multnomah
County District Attorney’s Office
will review the case. The pick-up
truck driver is expected to survive
his injuries. On Monday evening,
a large group of people gathered at
the location of the crash for a vigil.
