“Hello, Beautiful!”
Jerrie (Rie) Newman
1962 - 2015
Rie Newman was
the owner of the
Body Bistro, a
skin care business
in downtown St.
Johns. She was a
tireless St. Johns
organizer, coordi-
nating or volunteer-
ing for many local
events, and had a
wide and complex
circle of friends in
town. Rie was an el-
egant picture every day, and nearly always wore one of her collection
of stylish wide-brimmed hats. She was known for greeting everyone
she knew with, “Hello, Beautiful!”
Rie’s memorial service was held on July 25 at the James John Café.
The room was overfl owing with people, many of them wearing wide-
brimmed hats, and a crowd of people who couldn’t get in the door
gathered on the sidewalk outside.
Wesley Anne Cook, owner of local business In Among the Pigeons
and a close friend of Rie’s, said, “Rie touched folks in rare and lov-
ing ways, not only in her healing work at the Body Bistro but also
on the streets and byways of St. Johns. Her smile and laughter were
infectious, hearty, and well meant. No one could resist her greetings.
She leaves a great emptiness for all who knew her.”
