The St. Johns Bizarre kicks off the street fair season
with its 9th annual event on May 9
The vendors, residents, business
owners, and all-volunteer staff are
excited to announce the 9th annual
St. Johns Bizarre! This free event,
which Willamette Week has called,
“the best street fair of the season”,
takes place on May 9th, 2015 from
10am to 7pm.
Now in its ninth year, the Bizarre
is the perfect kick off event for
Portland’s vibrant street fair sea-
son, with an eclectic lineup of local
musical talent, dozens of craft ven-
dors and artists, and a beer garden
featuring only locally-brewed liba-
tions. And, as always, the Bizarre
takes place on the same day as the
historic St. Johns Parade, a North
Portland favorite for 53 years.
This year, the St. Johns Bizarre
organizers build on what the Port-
land Mercury has called, “Port-
land’s most diverse festival, mu-
sically and otherwise.” They’ve
assembled another eclectic lineup
of bands that will be holding court
on the Plaza Stage, located in the
shadow of the majestic St. Johns
Bridge.
On stage this year:
•
Tango Alpha Tango
•
•
•
•
Mic Capes
The Shivas
Sapient
Tezeta Band
And just as in years’ past, the
Bizarre kicks off with some great
fun for kids and adults alike with a
Western-themed physical comedy
performance by Leapin’ Louie fol-
lowed by a Bollywood dance class
featuring music and instruction by
beloved Portland mainstays, DJ An-
jali and The Incredible Kid.
The Bizarre also welcomes over
75 local vendors to take part in
this year’s juried craft fair, selling
an impressive array of handmade
art and craft items: from jewelry
and clothing to photography and
original art. Of course, the Bizarre
wouldn’t be complete without our
beer garden, hosted once again this
year by Occidental Brewing Co.,
who will be bringing out a variety
of tantalizing beers. Local bottle
shop, Barrique Barrel, will return
for a second-year of pouring cider
and wine in the beer garden as well.
