“Old Review Issues” need to be found and
recorded electronically for history
saddened, the words, “Don’t kill it; I’ll
buy it,” fl ew out of my
mouth before I had time to
plan a way to publish two
newspapers a month,
alone.
At that time, the Review was Gayla
still weekly because it had a Patton
Editor
full staff available to do so.
But, it wasn’t making the money the
other monthly paper’s he had pur-
chased from the Pry’s were making so
his choice was to stop publication of it.
The front page article on that fi nal
issue was about it being the Review’s
last. After 90 years in publication, it
would be such a shame to let that hap-
pen and I thought, I’ll buy it, and fi gure
out the dynamics later.
As we agreed on a price, Roeper and
I literally ran to the warehouse to yell
out to press workers: “Stop the press-
es!!” Seriously, that’s what we yelled.
Now, you can’t make this stuff up
and as it turned out, it was one of the
best decisions I’ve ever made in my
life.
Here’s my dilemma.
On my Bill of Sale, it says: all for-
mer issues of the Review belong to
me. However, when the fi ling cabinet
(full of history), was delivered to me,
there unfortunately were only a hand-
ful of the old hardbound issues deliv-
ered with it. I asked at the time where
the rest of them were, and the delivery
people didn’t know. I was extremely
concerned about this and Roeper said
he’d try to fi nd out where the rest of
them were. He never did.
It would be some years later that I
would fi nd out that some how, in some
way, the St. Johns Heritage Society
had most or at least, many of them.
For many years I have attempted
(via letters, notes, and conversations,)
to get these old issues returned, but
my correspondence has never been an-
swered. Now I’m asking that if you,
or someone you know can help have
them returned to their rightful owner,
I would appreciate it.
To compile and create a lasting his-
tory for North Portland, it is impera-
tive these old newspapers be returned.
Their old pages have now become
yellow, faded and crispy with time,
and soon will start to disintegrate. It’s
imperative that if the history between
those precious pages be saved, they
need to be turned into electronic re-
cords. And so, I would be very much
appreciative, if those old issue were
returned to the Review offi ce as soon
as possible.
If you can help accomplish this,
please call or email the offi ce at:
503-283-5086 or reviewnewspaper@
gmail.com.
I will gladly pick them up any-
where, anytime. I am absolutely will-
ing to still lend issues to the Heritage
Society, or whoever has them, for their
pleasure to read, when requested.
Until next issue, stay safe.

rules added. (We’ll learn as we go.)
* One vote per person. Voting begins in November where all the year’s pictures will be
re-shown.
