LETTERS to the EDITOR
New Businesses
Dear Editor,
Please, what is the construction
going on at Lombard and Rich-
mond. I count on my Review
newspaper to let me know this
type of information, but unless
I’ve missed it, I’ve seen nothing.
I love my St. Johns Review.
Thank you for your work.
Janet V. K.
North Portland
Hello...
Dear Editor,
I just moved to the area and
found your newspaper in several
businesses around town and love
it. You just don’t fi nd these types
of publications any more. Includ-
ed is my subscription to make
sure I don’t miss ever getting one.
I notice where I usually get mine,
they were all taken the next time I
went in there.
Sincerely,
Dillon Archers
No mailboxes.
No phone booths
Dear Editor:
I want to start by saying how
much I love St. Johns - it really
feels like home to me. But I can’t
help noticing the markers of civi-
lization that are disappearing from
our streets. First, I became aware
that there are no phone booths
any more. If one doesn’t have a
cell phone, communication or
even a call for help whilst on the
street is not an option anymore.
Today I was out to mail a simple
card to a friend in California and
walking about found that there are
no blue mailboxes on the corners
anymore. I walked to the post
offi ce and even there you have
to enter the building in order to
post a simple envelope. It seems
like the markers that we all grew
up seeing and took for granted,
are not there anymore. I suppose
that is a way to test one’s age; if
you don’t remember mailboxes
or phone booths, you are showing
your age.
I love the newspaper, please
don’t disappear.

Letters To The Editor:
St. Johns Main Street Awards $18,720.00 in storefront matching mini
grants to local businesses
North Portland, Oregon. St. Johns
Main Street is pleased to announce
the recipients of our annual Store-
front Matching Mini Grants. Lo-
cal business and property owners
from the St. Johns business district
were invited to submit a request
for one-to-one matching funds
between $500-$2,500 to support
improvements to the interior or
exterior of their buildings. With
more requests than funds avail-
able, Main Street had some tough
choices to make, but couldn’t be
more excited for the great projects
that Mini Grant recipients like the
Man Shop will complete. Entering
their 76th year in the business, the
Man Shop will use grant funds to
repair their iconic sign so that it
will revolve and stay lit through
the night. Golden Harvesters, a
membership-based food coopera-
tive serving low-income residents,
will have exterior paint and land-
scaping work done on their prop-

At the end of 2015 (most likely in November,) the pictures will be voted upon by read-
ers for which photo reader’s liked the best. The winner will receive a $100 cash prize
from the Review.

* If multiple photos are sent at one time by a photographer, the Review will use judgment
for the picture (or pics) we think will print best in the paper.
* Since this is a fi rst, these rules may change during the year, or more suggestions and
rules added. (We’ll learn as we go.)
* One vote per person. Voting begins in November where all the year’s pictures will be
re-shown.
(Disclaimer: Pictures appearing in the paper are reformatted to tiff’s at 600 resolution
for printing presses. After placement in the paper and being printed on newsprint, the
photos may lose a certain amount of clarity. The Review cannot be responsible for lack
of clarity or any other changes in the pictures. The Review is not responsible or liable
for pictures sent in saying their author has taken them when in fact they may not have.)
