The boat was tied to a fl oating dock near the middle of the Ross Island Lagoon. PF&R fi reboats arrived and found fi re in the sailboats cabin. The boat was unoccupied and secure when fi re crews arrived. The fi re was extinguished and an investigator was called to determine the cause. A small pet dog was in- side the boat and died in this fi re. The Portland Fire Investigator de- termined that this fi re was an acci- dent. The owner left a portable pro- pane heater running inside her boat when she left in the morning. The fi re started when that heater made contact with clothing. The loss from this fi re is estimated at $1000. CRIME STOPPERS FEA- TURES CASE #15-09 PORTS- MOUTH NEIGHBORHOOD ASSAULT Portland Police Bureau February 23rd, 2015 2:33 PM The Portland Police Bureau, in co- operation with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspects in- volved in an assault and robbery in North Precinct’s Portsmouth Neighborhood. During the ear- ly morning hours of February 14, 2015, 43-year-old Patrick Wheaton was walking in the area of North Fessenden Street and N Exeter Av- enue when he was attacked by two suspects and knocked unconscious. Both suspects were described as white males, having slender builds, both in their twenties, with one be- ing approximately 6’2” tall and the other being 5’10” tall. SUSPICIOUS DEATH INVES- TIGATION UNDERWAY AT KELLEY POINT PARK Portland Police Bureau February 19th, 2015 10:57 PM Late Thursday night, Feb. 19, ho- micide detectives booked 22-year- old Nicholas Ross Estrada into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Murder and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. Estrada was arraigned on Friday. On Wednesday February 18, 2015, at 3:39 p.m., North Precinct offi cers responded to Kelley Point Park on the report of a missing person. Offi - cers spoke with a 22-year-old male who told police his 22-year-old girlfriend went missing sometime overnight while they were camping in the park on the bank of the Wil- lamette River. Offi cers checking the area did not locate the missing woman but due to some suspicious circumstances, offi cers asked for Homicide detectives and Crimi- nalists from the Forensic Evidence Division to respond and assist with the investigation. On Feb. 20 Mult- nomah County Sheriff’s Offi ce div- ers located the 22-year-old woman deceased in the river. The Oregon State Medical Examiner will con- duct an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Updates will be provided when they become available. The woman’s name will be released after the au- topsy and family notifi cations have been made. POLICE INVESTIGATING SHOOTING IN PIEDMONT Portland Police Bureau February 19th, 2015 10:58AM On Thursday February 19, 2015, at 5:16 a.m., North Precinct offi - cers responded to the intersection of Northeast Cleveland Avenue and Dekum Street on the report gunshots heard in the area. Offi - cers arrived in the area and located two vehicles damaged by gunfi re. The vehicles were unoccupied and parked on Northeast Dekum Street, between Cleveland and Rodney Avenues. Offi cers contacted the ve- hicle owners who told police they heard gunshots but did not see any- one shooting. A witness told police a van or SUV drove down the street at approximately the same time as the shooting but its unclear if the shooting came from the vehicle. The Portland Police Bureau Gang Enforcement Team and Gun Task Force are continuing to actively investigate gang and gun crimes in the City of Portland. PORTLAND Portland Police Bureau February 17th, 2015 5:28 PM On Sunday February 15, 2015, at 4:35 a.m., North Precinct offi cers responded to the report of a sexu- al assault at a residence near North Portsmouth Avenue and Willamette Boulevard in the University Park Neighborhood. Offi cers arrived in the area and contacted the 20-year-old female victim. The victim told police that she left a party earlier in the eve- ning and was walking home but got lost and was picked up by what she thought was a taxi somewhere near North Columbia Boulevard. The victim reported to police that the driver sexually assaulted her before dropping her off near her home. The victim did not require immediate medical attention. The victim described the suspect as a male Hispanic or Middle East- ern in his 40s, black hair and spoke with an accent. There is no vehicle description and no information if it is a legitimate taxi service. The Portland Police Bureau would like to remind community members that reports of this nature fortunately are a rare occurrence.
