Dennis Thomas
McCormack
Dennis Thomas McCormack
passed away in his favorite chair
on Thursday January 15 at 91
years of age. He was born on May
28, 1923 in Great Falls Montana to

& Cath-
erine
McCor-
mack.
He was
brother
to four
sisters,
Eileen,
N o r a
Helen,
Kath-
leen &
M a u -
reen.
Dennis
graduat-
ed High
School
in 1942,
and left
Montana for Portland, with the
intention of enlisting in the Ser-
vice. In 1943, he joined the Navy
and served during WWII aboard
the USS Dashiell, where despite
failing typing, he was deemed the
only Sailor with enough typewriter
experience to keep the Ship’s Log.
On June 10, 1946, Dennis mar-
ried Carol Adelaide Anderson.
They eventually settled in North
Portland where they began their
Family. Despite juggling several
jobs, including working for Under-
wood Typewriter, Dennis enrolled
in classes at the University of Port-
land. He graduated in 1960 while
working for United Airlines and
in 1961 opened Ace Typewriter &
Equipment Co in St. Johns, where
he worked up until his passing.
Dennis is survived by his chil-

Rosary and Funeral were held on
Friday January 23rd at Holy Cross
Church in Portland.

mann) and Maria McCormack. He
is survived by his grandchildren,
Phillip, Catherine & Carol Morton,
Paul & Richard McCormack and
Chris & Greg Blomquist. Dennis
also leaves behind several great
grandchildren and his Dear Friend
Darlene Thayer.
He was preceded in death by his
wife, as well as three of his chil-
dren Kathleen, Steven and Joseph
Mina Stratford of Portland, Ore-
gon, passed away on December 26,
2014 in Hillsboro, Oregon.
Mina was born in Scotia Town-
ship (Landa), North Dakota to Pe-
ter and Marie Fylling on December
3, 1917. She attended school in
Bottineau County, Nursing school
in Los Angeles, California and
then moved to Portland, Oregon
to work at Emanuel Hospital. She
married Donald Strat-
ford on September 24,
1950 in Portland, Or-
egon.
She was involved
in a variety of vol-
unteer activities both
in her church and the
community includ-
ing Sunday school,
Boy & Girl Scouts,
Friends of Columbia
Park, Portland Com-
munity Policing, and
helping at Northwest
Place where she lived the past 14
years.
Mina is preceded in death by her
parents Peter and Marie, her hus-
band Donald and all of her siblings.
Mina is survived by her son John
Stratford (Ronda), daughter Marie
Stratford and son Merlyn Stratford;
Grandchildren Reuben Stratford
(Sarah) and Andrea Parmalee (Ty-
Mina Stratford
rone); Great Grandchildren Robyn,
Holly, Boone, Joshua, Hailey, Jen-
nifer and Emma; and a long list of
very dear friends and relatives.
A celebration of Mina’s life was
held December 29th and she has
been laid to rest alongside her hus-
band at Willamette National Cem-
etery.
Memorials may be given to the
charity of your choice.
The family of Mina wishes to ex-
tend our sincere thanks to Legacy
Hospice Services and the caring
staff at Empres Hillsboro for the
care and comfort they provided
during the past month.
Arrangements were made by
Hustad Funeral Home.
