St. Johns Study Club The St. Johns Study Club wns honored on Wednesday with n distinguished guest, Miss Ann Shannon Monroe, Oregon novel ist and magazine writer who gave an intensely interesting in tormal tolk on Oregon writers and the Oregon Writers' League of which she is president. Miss Monroe, who herself is nationally known as a novelist and also us a regular contributor to t lie Good Housekeeping magazine, is an in teresting speaker and being per sonally aeipminted witli many Oregon writers of whose work she spoke, was able to touch just n little upon the personal charac ter and high ideals of each. Miss Monroe is very proud of the record of Oregon writers.four of whom received such high hon ors last year, and anticipates that Oregon will in the next decade produce some of the world's best writers. The reason Oregon writ ers are producing such good, wholesome literature, she says, is because tho early pioneers brought with thent across the plains, if they brought nothinir else, the Bible, Shakespeare. Pil grim's Progress and the diction ary, and such a foundation could but produce good literature. A short business mcctiiur nre- ceded Miss Monroe's talk.
