Portland again is engaged in the shipbuilding industry after n apse of nearly a year or since the Northwest Bridge & Iron Works closed its plant, C. F. Matthews, who recently acquired tho Penin sula Shipbuilding plant, has laid the keel for largo wooden schoon er for the F, F. Freeman Steam ship Co., and has a force of more than 30 men employed. The force will be increased ns the construc tion of the craft progresses. The essel will be built especially as lumber carrier. Abstract. Mrs. J. F. Gillmore has relum ed from Texas, where she was called in connection with settling her mother s estate. Her mother died suddenly March 31 of heart trouble nt the age of T2. Her father, West Edwards, an old time cattleman,dieu lb years ago. here were six children, two girls and four boys, the youngest boy dying during the war. The other three still continue the cat tle business established by their father. Mrs. Gillmore reports plenty of rain and everything m good shape, and the oil business beginning to boom again.
