W, Overstreet Wednesday, evening, April 5th. A paper on our mission work in the Philip pines was read by Mrs. ImliofT. Mrs. Faxon gave a talk on our work in Porto Rico and Jamaica. A special feature of the evening was the address given by our state secretary, Mrs. Swope, on the value of missionary work. Special music by Mrs. Overstreet and Means was enjoyed by all. The rooms were tastily decorated iu the society's colors, lavender and white, with Oregon grape as a pleasing contrast. Tho smoker held at tho Woolon Mills club houso last Friday ovo ning was largely attondod, and tho events pulled off were highly interesting and exciting. Some clover boxing was exhibited, and every one apparently was well satisfied with tho entertainment provided. Tho Sittou school defeated the Linnton school in a well played game of baso ball at Pier park on iu&suay afternoon by n scoro of 7 to 5. Tho locals made five runs in the final inning. Clarence Key pitched tho locals to victory and Ran Rahn' did good work be- and tho bat. Tho Peninsula Iron Works lias been taken over by a now corpor ation known as the Peninsula Foundry & Machine Works, cap italized at $5,000. Tho plant and equipment are valued at $125,000 and additional capital will be provided later. Edward F. Doyle, vice president of the Pen- nsula Security Co., is president of the new company. W. A.
