Mail Early and Often By Anule Sclilruier, clerk in New Ro chelle, New York, postoulce, The Christmastide is drawing near, When parcel post looms high, The clerki and postmen plead with you; "Mail Karly," is their cry. Of course you want your friends to get Their gifts by Christinas day, And Uncle Sam will back you up If you mail them right away. But if you keep on waiting Until tjie last few days, There'll be congestion in the mails And terrible delays. Just think how disappointed The kiddies nil would be, If your presents came too late To hang ou the Christmas tree. Your gifts need not be opened If a past r you will use; "Don't open until Christmas,' ' Is a seal that you should choose. I wonder If you realize The hardships of the clerks, If you neglect to mall tliisNvcek, And thus your duty shirk. And pity the poor postmen Laden down with shoulders lame; For Altho 'tis "Merry Christmus" They must all work just the same. So remember, friends, mail early. If you'd spread the Christmas cheer, Mall early, nnd mall often And delays you need not fear. St. Johns Grocery (Formerly C. S. CM The Public Dock Commission last week authorized the extension of the municipal railway from its present terminus at the entrance to Municipal No. 4 directly into the center of the terminal at a cost of approximately ffiooo. It is likely that the work wilt be performed by force account. The commission con atructcd this railway as an exten sion of the St. Johns Hue several mouths ago to a point just outside the terminal urea. The terminus wan a considerable distance from the big piers nnd docks and em ployes and others going to ami from the terminal were required to walk nearly ouehulf mile. The result was that tho commission lost considera ble patronage and it was finally decided to build the extension -Abstract. Walter Thormlyko of ilillitiKH.
