"Hf0"l Boot, ST. JOHNS REVIEW ST. JOHNS, PORTLAND. OREGON, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 11921. VOLUME 18 V.' 'V . t 1 i ..TV. Make the Vote Unanimous The following official statement has been prepared by Ira F. Powers, Chairman of the 1925 Exposition Committee, as setting forth particular reasons why the people of St. Johns should unanimously approve the special tax measure on November 19th: The 1925 Exposition is Oregon's greatest opportunity to advertise. Will give steady employment to thousands. Will reduce taxes by bringing more people to Oregon to pay taxes. California has a population of 22 to the square mile; Washington 20 and Oregon 8. California exceeds in growth because it ADVERTISES. Washington has nearly twice the population of Oregon because it is Progressive. Oregon lags behind because it has not advertised. Advertising is the quick method to develope the State of Oregon and to increase its population. The 1925 Exposition is the most effective and cheapest method of telling the World about Oregon. It will attract the world attention to the entire Pacific Coast. It will show tourists our unlimited resources, our matchless scenery, our sixty mil lion dollars7 worth of highways. It will give Oregon millions of dollars worth of free advertising in the publications of the world. It will send thousands of people back to their homes throughout the entire United States as permanent boosters for Oregon, its undeveloped resources, its magnificent scenery, wonderful highways, its temperate climate and enormous water power resources. The $6,000,000 we invest in the Exposition will be matched by at least an equal sum from the States, the Government and foreign countries in buildings to house exhibits. At least .$50,000,000 will be spent in Portland in preparation for the Exposition. All cities and towns in Oregon will have to increase their building programs to take care of the thousands of auto tourists which will do much toward the upbuilding of our Oregon. OUT OP THIS MONEY A LARGE PART WILL BE SPENT IN LABOR, which means the EXPOSITION WILL BRING GREAT RETURNS to the WORKING MAN, This year the tourists spent in California 365 millions or one million per day. It is reasonable to expect that in 1925 they will spend at least 150 millions in this State. Oregon will receive over one million dollars in gasoline tax from 1925 tourists. The Exposition with its foreign and government displays will be of inestimable ed ucational value and worth at least one year's schooling to our boys and girls. City and State Tax is Small: The tax on a home assessed at $500 is $1.66 a year for 3 years. The tax on a home assessed at $1,000 is $3.32 a year for 3 years. Equal distribution of all remaining funds pro rated to city, state and subscribers. " THERE WILL BE NO EXPOSITION IP THE EXPOSITION TAX MEASURE DOES NOT CARRY ON NOVEMBER 19. . . --ST.
