THE ST. JOHNS REVIEW A. W. Markle Editor Published Friday of Each Week 404 N. Jersey St. Phone Col. 321 Subscription prla SI. GO pirynr. po el the second class under the Act of Con gttt of Hatch 3, 1879. Arrangementa have been corn plated for the staging of an en tertainment and telephone dem onstration in the Y. W. C. A. auditorium for the people of the St. Johns district Tuesday night next. TIiib is the same enter tainmont that was the feature of tho Oregon Stato fair a week ago. whon several thousand noo- plo were turned away after 1200 people had been given scats in the auditorium on tho fair grounds. The entertainment is given by tho employes of the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph company and includes music by a jazz orchestra, a mixed quar tet composed of fine talent, a male quartet rated as one of the best in tho northwest, as well as individual stars who have been greeted with tremendous ovations wherever they have ap peared. Tho novel feature of the program will be a demon itration put on by five expert operators. This demonstration will show tho residents of St. Johns just how telephone calls aro handled in Portland, how thov aro received in tho Colum bia exchange, and how they are then sent out to the various ex changes throughout tho citv. To atago this demonstration the urn ployoaof tho telephone company have secured duplications of tho Portland exchanges, and the operators use miniature tele phono Hwitchboarda which are exact replicas of tho boards found in tho exchanges. Not only is tho demonstration enter taining, but it is amusing as rroll, for the telephone operators interject some of tho experiences which aro common to them. No admission is charged for tho en tertainment, it being given by tho employes as the means of giving tho residents of St. Johns an insight into tho work which tho employes of this large com pany must perform in order to givo telephone service through out tho stato of Oregon. Tho principal and teachers, Nellie M. Slovens, Opal Ilagen buch, Hlancho Keser, Hilda Tocring. Hmelin U11da.1l.
