The Garden Kxhlbit of the schools was held iu the Peninsu la National Bank lobby Sept. 15th. This exhibit was the outcome of the Garden contests introduced by the Batik last year which proved very successful. The contestants are taken from the grammar grades in all the schools on the Peninsula and are furnished needs with which to start their gardens. The ex hibits were particularly fine. Iu considering North St. Johns as a site for the 1925 Exposition the fact should not be overlooked that it is the only place where a big harbor can he developed. If the city would purchase the laud ex tending down to the conjunction of the two rivers, a harbor extending from the west bank of the Willam ette and the east bank of the Co lumbia could be established, mak ing it oi immense scope and importance. When the money is ex pended for the Fair project, why not get something for the money something that will be of lasting benefit ever afterward ? Dr. H. F. Jones preached a very nteresting sermon last Sunday evening at the Christian church, the subject of his dis course being on "Tho Regenera tion of Bryant Kent" Tho doc tor is delivering a series of sermons on "The Gospel in Lit erature," and Sunday evening a sermon was the second of tho se ries. The books he reviews have a moral of an elevating nature, which ho weaves into his ser mons in an impressive manner. Besides being of high value from a religious point of view, the se ries aro 'proving very interest- ina and entertaining. Next bun- day evening the Dr. will review tho book.
