Icport of couditiou oi the Choice In Portlmid, Oregon, ns mail limtter of the second cIam under the Act of Con rfresa of Mnrch i, 1879, The banquet and bazaar given in the handsome new edifice of the Pioneer Methodist church) now un der construction 011 Charleston street, adjoining the St. Johns li brary, Wedncsdny afternoon and evening, was a splendid and un qualified success. The large num ber of donors and the cooperation displayed in assisting to make the affair the success it proved to be demonstrated the fine unanimity of the people. The attendance wis gratifying to the members of the church, who spared no efforts that would in any way contribute to its success, and more than 300 tickets were sold. The banquet was elegant, appetizing and satisfying. It was served admirably and the culinary ability of the ladies of the church was never more clearly ex emplified. A delightful program was rendered following the ban quet, in which entertaining and in spiring talks were given by Rev. Kloster, toastmoster: Rev. W. V. Youngson, Dr. Mills, editor of the Pacific Advocate, Dr. Sondifur and Rev. Irvine were called upon. Solos were beautifully rendered by Lieutenant Crane and Mrs. Gabriel I'ullin. The handsome architectute nf the church, its well planned and conveniently arranged compart ments and the progress that has been made towards completion were all inspected and highly com mented upon by many of the vis itors. After the program had been completed the ba'aar was the ob ject of considerable interest, and there were numerous articles of n hnudsome, Uhcful and .substantial nature.
