The Bacholor Club ball team
registered another win when
they downed Montavilia 98 on
their grounds last Sunday. While
this was not the best exhibition
of tho National pa3timq, it was
the moat hotly contested game
"of tho season with the club boys
leading tho way. Montavilia
threw a scare into the Bachelors
when they chased two runs over
the plate in the first inning. Tie
Becond frame was a whirlwind
with some w ord base ball on
tho part of Montavilia and plenty
of free hitting from thj liacho
lors. During this inning four
runs wcro chalked up which put
the lead with the club players.
several additional runs were
marked up when tho bombard
ment of the third inning had
rolled away and with a lead of
four runs it looked as though an
easy win was in sight. Monta
vilia showed plenty of fight from
this time on, while that of tho
Bachelors diminished, and when
tho eighth Inning was marked
up the scoro stood 8 8. In the
ninth tho club players put over
the winning run after two were
out on Larson's double nnd a
Hingle by "Cupio"' Poff. Mont
avilia did not threaten during
their last trip to the plate. Tho
olliciul records show that two of
the winners fanned while twelve
of tho loses took three unpro
ductive swings. "Cupto" Poff,
catching his first gamo of tho
year, performed in superb style
nnd was a tower of strength for
Manager Mariettas crew. N !
son at first played ms usual
smooth game. "Gummy" Tool
ing ran tho gamo in faultless
fashion as umpire.
Work will soon start on com
pletion of largo additions to tho
plant of tho Peninsula Lumber
company. Tho additions include
an entirely now saw mill, dry
kiln, planing mill, drying shed,
dock, uxtension of tho storage
yards and railway trackage. Al
together tho new construction
will cost approximately $750,000.
Ths new development is located
north of tho presont mill, and
will prove a great boon to tho
Peninsula.

One or more misguided rascals
effected an entrance into this
office Tuesday night by prying
open the back window. Anout
two bits in change, which is as
much as tho money drawer us
ually contains, va3 taken by
prying the drawer open. A pair
if glasses belonging to Mr. ver
ion, who is employed at this
ifllco, was also taken. Besides
ipilling a bottle of purple indeli
ble ink, mus3ing over a box of
old dust powder, and scattering
some papers nnd straining some
ocks no further damugo was
noted. The party making the
raid was imnmbly a youth and
of low mentality at that, else
he would have known that &
money drawer in a printing
office is only a bluff and other
valuables only a dream. At least
such has been our experience
artcr many years of faithful in
vestigation. Wo imagine tho
foolish youth experienced some
difficulty in removing the indel
ible stumping ink from his fin
gers and the gold dust from his
clothes. If the next nocturnul
visitor will notify us in advance
wo will probably arrange to leave
the door unlocked and join in the
search on a fifty-fifty basis.

The Fraternal Boosters
Just lay aside your business
worries for a time nnd attend
the business meetings of the
Fratcrnnl Boosters. Wa should
bear in mind the fact that our
communities arc at stake, as
well as individualities. It is
our desire to have you cooper
ate with us that wo may be able
to work hand in hand in this
great Btruggle for the better
ment of all humankind nnd nil
that is good. To do all essential
to bring about eventualities ly
ing dormant around nnd ubout
us. that wc may accomplish
things worth while. Tho ones
tion nrises regarding tho ovent
of 1925. In the minds of most
every one this city hns the ideal
place to offer for consideration.
It would be most natural to think
first of conveniences of gaining
access to and from tho Fair. Our
water nnd rail facilities would
bo hard to excel, avoiding de
lays in transit, providing oppor
tunities for parking nnd camp
ing sites, which, to tho tourist.
would be most essential. A
committee is working along these
lines. It should not only be
our duty, but our pleasure as
Boosters of Portland to stand
firmly behind them Hint suc
cess may be tlioir reward, mo
Booster band is also n decided
success, as before stated, with
seventeen members nnd others
havo ngreed to assist in this
work.
It behooves each nnd every
ono to acquire a. broader view of
life, and the worldly goods at
our command, to bo on the alert,
ready to grasp the golden oppor
tunities extended toward us, to
do nil and daro all that we may
accomplish tho one great end
success. In tho amalgamation
of the great Fraternities hero
represented let us strivo to bring
about, if possible, happenings
to show us tho straight way to
our goal, and tho accomplish
ment of higher nnd greater
things. We aro but creatures
of tho earth, and in our broad
and just decisions let us realize
tho fact that hero wc must
dwell, nnd not try to soar to a
i i i . t
icvei unattainable. lou aro
! hereby requested to bo present
at each of our meeting nnd be
