Phone Columbia 1289 The Function of Banking Keeping money safe is a bank's first duty but that Is not its final nor its highest duty. The real purpose of banking is to make money work. Making money for the depositors, so that they will earn interest on it, or for the stockholders, so that it will pay them dividends, arc only incidental functions of banking. The final ultimate purpose of a bank is to give direct ion to the way money works so that it will contribute to the commercial and industrial activities, first of the commun ity it serves, nnd in a larger sense, to those of the whole country ami the world.
