The collection consists of snuill carved figures, representing modes ol travel in China, their occupations and their idol houses. There is also a very beautiful Cloisonne vase, a bag I.. These were sent Mrs. Scott by her son and will he on exhibition lor a lim ited time. Some beautiful pieces of pot tery made nv last years class in art at the Y. V. C. A. tire also being exhibited at the library. During the recent Pacific Northwest Library Association in Portland, about twenty li brarians from Washington, Ore gon and British Columbia call ed to see the St. .lohns Branch and were entertained at tea. Miss Florence Could has re cently come from the Tacoma Public Library to lie children's librarian, and Miss Crace Jones ol SI. Johns is the new desk assistant. Miss Bowers leaves Septem ber Ifilh for utwo week's vaca tion at the beach. Tin1 library is being relinled within and painted without, re sulting in a pleasing transfor mation. Two interesting books recent ly received are La Molle's Pe king dust and Wright's Interior decoration for modern needs. u Two carloads of chocolate truffles, the product of the Chocolate Truffles company of Portland, were shipped to New York this week. Four thousand pounds ol sweets are now turned out daily by the con cern, which recently has moved into larger ipiarlers.
