was that if they must give up
thoir homes in tho interost of
a park that thoy wore entitled to
a fair compensation for tho ex

to in securing and beautifying
thoir residences. That it was on

they would bo fair and just in
tho matter and that tho property
owners would bo accorded full
value for their holdings. Mr.
Walker anid ho did not blamo
anyone for vigorously protesting
if they were not proffered the
full valuo of their property. lie

matter of area with it, and
when tho commissioners had
asked if tho Caples tract, aug

THE POLITICAL POT

Tho candidates for offices at
the coming primary election,

tho Way of reform, nconnmv nnd
tho subjection of tho discontent.
ed malefactors whoso opinions
are and hnvo been antagonistic
to present conditions, whnn
politicians begin to make out
their slogans for presentation to
the voters, it should bo as brief
as possible. As a rulo when tho
candidate runs for nn office ho
or sho starts out with so many
things that need remedying that
it gives one nn impression why
mako promises at all? I don't
sco any use of any candidate
mnking n contract boforohand
with tho public. First find out
if tho bill can be filled. But tho
trouble with the primary laws is
that it is very hard for each ono
of tho candidates to appear bo-
fore a civil sorvico commission
and trike an oxnmination for tho
office to which ho or sho may
aspiro to. Tako for instance
several of tho candidates running
for Longross. Supposing thoso
candidates l have in view would
bo elected, nnd when tho timo
came to servo nnd assume tho
duties, could they render unto
tho citizens the sorvico required
for tho amount which tho covorn
mont pays them? I should say
not. And wo find the samo
thing in many other instances.
Take for instance tho number of
candldntcri who aro running for
Stato Senators and Represent
atives how many of them nro
fitted for making Inws that are
and should bo for thu benefit of
thoir follow man?
I am going to givo tho reader
a complete bill of fare of all tho
candidates who aro now running
for office. This is dono for tho
purpose of mteting competition
with the great daily nowspapers.
Tho proprietors of tho a mill I

tories, so therororo wc, that is
tho writer, cannot imposo too
much on spaco, which is very
vnluablo at this atago of the
game, and must not maxo too
many comments about tho gcTud
or bad qualities ot candidates.
For President of tho United
States thcro aro fivo candidates
in tho field on tho Republican
tlckot. For Vico President thero
will bo thrco on tho ticket. On
tho Domocrntic ticket wo have
not heard or seen any ono who is
going to run outside of Hoove.
That boing tho caso, tho Domo
crates will hnvo no troublo in
nominating their choice, nnd as
to tho Vico President so far wo
cannot speculate; its against
our principles.

on tho "practice" ho has had.
At any rnto tho race will be
between Robert N. Stanfield and
Albert Abraham for the Repub-
ican nomination. On the Demo
cratic ticket there will also be
two candidates, Georgo E.
Chamberlain and N. E. Stark
weather.
For Congress on Republican
ticket wo have Hon. C. N. Mc-
Arthur, present incumbent,
bugene E. bmith and Thomas A.
Sweeney. For tho Democratic
nomination wo have two ladies
Dr. Esther Lovejoy and Mrc.
Aloxander Thompson. No gentle,
