IEW 'VOLUME 1G ST. JOHNS, PORTLAND, OREGON, FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 1920. NUMBER 15 ST. JOHNS Rpv Mrs. mid Mrs. David Dickson and liltlo son wore nil on the sick list during tliu past week. A new shipbuilding firm lo be known as the Monarch Ship building company has entered the Portland field and opened an office in the Worcester building. The new firm is com posed of Captain W. Z. IlnskiiiSf manager ol the Oregon Steve doring company, and Caplnin John J. Reynolds. In response to rumors along tins waterfront Unit the partners arc planning an extensive programme of shipbuilding at the old yard of the Grant Sn)ith-Porlcr Ship company in St. Johns, Captains llaskins and Reynolds said that no definite plans have been made beyond the completion of the hulls which they recently purchased from George P. Roti fers. Oregonian. Plans to double the capacity of the Peninsula Lumber com pany's plant and make it the largest mill in this section of the country if not in the world, and to build a large new dock for the accommodation of ocean shimrfnu at the Peninsula plant were revealed in a request re ceived hy the i'ort ot I'orl laud commission Friday from P. C. Knap), president of the Peninsula company, for the use of one of the port dredges in making a fill on the site of the poposcd new unit. As the Peninsula company proposes to pay the usual rale for the use of the dredge, and as it is con sidered imperative that the fill be made before the spring freshets in order that it may settle and be ready for the erection of buildings by early summer, the port commission voted to give Mr. Ktuipp its full co-operation. It was agreed that the dredge Williamcttc will be detailed lo this work. The Willamete is now undergoing repairs at the port drydockj and is expected to be ready tor service by the end of this mouth. The Peninsula com pany has acquired all the laud between its present plant and the S., P. & S. bridge across the Willamette as the site for the addition lo the mill and for dock purposes. The cost of the company m proposed improve ments will be several hundred thousand dollars. GEORGIA RICH fiAXIST TUAClUSlt Phonal HOB Buih a. Lan Dido. SIS Alnaworlh Ava. 410 Otwtoo at. Many of the workers in the interest of the Armenian Belief were very much disappointed in the way people responded to the call of such a needy cause. The appalling situation in Armenia was put lo them plainly and still they would say, we have nothing to give. liven people who were known by the workers to be well able to give liberally, gave nothing. Our Master has said; "For I was an hungered, and ve gave me no meal; I was thirsty and ye gave me no drink; I was naked ami ye clothed me not." This is what you are doing when you refuse help for Ihe starv ing Armenian women and children, for Christ says, "In asmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not unto me." - Reported.
