He had romoved hero from
' York County, which was the par
ent homo, a half century ago,
and wan one of the very first if
not the first to erect his homo on
"the other side of the river,"

was a master carpenter and build

tor and builder, the late Samuel
Schunck, in the firm of Marklo
and Schenck in, which film the

Mr. Marklo was an expert pat
tern maker in the Clearfield
Machine Shops, whuro he was
much consulted and where he

All his life Mr. Markle took
mi active and patriotic inlure.il
in public affairs. In national
politic he was an unswerving
democrat, and most intelligently
informed always upon the issues
of tha day. Few men could cope
with him in their discussion,
and upon the gn-at (mention of

tious. Never seeking office but
never shirking duty when the
office sought him. He was all
his years from early manhood a
consistent Christian man who
took an active and influential
part in. the church of his choice
namely, the Lutheran church,
and it is said of him that ho was
thoroughly postedon church his
tory and discipline and carried
out in his own life heroically and
proudly before the world, the
sublime teachings of the Master.

no word tribute could do his noble
life and character full credit as
thu flowers and uffections of
loved ones bid farewell to him,
and thus ends beautifully the
chapter of his life as it should
be ended. His examplo and in
fluence however will live on far
hoyond the lifo limit of those
who now pay him last and.loving
tribute.
He is survived by two daugh
ters, Misses Mary, and Uussic
Markle, at -home, and five sons,
namely: Claronco Marklo, of As
pinwall; Charles Markle, of
Pittsburg; (ieorgc N. Mnrkle,
of New York City; A. W. Mar
kle and Wilbur Markle, of St.
Johns, a suburb of Portland City,
Oregon. Thu funeral was held
from his late home, Jtov. C. W.
linker, hispaHtor, of the Luther

Dear Markle: I think that the
last time I wrote you was con
siderably over a year ago. At
that time 1 was with the War
Kisk Bureau in Washington, D.
C. Last June I left the Bureau
and wont into Estate Tax wor
for Internal Uvenuc Service at
headquarters in Washington.
From there I was transferred to
the 23d District of Pennsylvania
with my post of duty here in
Pittsburg. That was on October
1st. 1910. The tax game is a
very interesting one in vestigat
ing and reporting on the returns
filed. Uncle Sam is very thorough
in these matters, to see that he
gets all that's coming to him
and that's a plenty these days.
The work id full of variety-
never two cases alike present
ing now and interesting qostions
almost daily, very frequently
aironts and inspectors are con
fronted with questions of law.so
that a legal training is almost
necessary to handle the job. In
fact, the Treasury Department
is now requiring applicants-for
these appointments to be more
educated and trained along legal
lines. This is especially true of
those doing ostato work. Of
course this phase of the work
was ploasing to me.

Cincinnati! or Pittsburgh. 1
