A homo guard department has boon organized of the Woman's Home Missionary socioty of the Pioneor Methodist church, St. Johns. Mrs. H. T. Meeting will bo held the first Monday of each month. The peninsula is rapidly com ing into its own as n manufac turing and shipping center and tho coming year will see the greatest period of development in tho History oi North Portland, is tho opinion of Portland bus ncss mon interested in that sec tion. Johns terminal, wus takon to St. Vincent's Iiob pi till Sunday suffering severely from burns on tho face and hands sustained Saturday night when tho one-room shack which he oc cupied at 500 North Ivanhoc, street, St. Johns, burned down. Mr. Barton returned from work Saturday night and, after build ing a firo in tho Bheet-iron stove and hanging up his clothes to dry, he wont to bed. Ho awoke in tho night to find tho entiro building in flnmos. Ho was painfully burnod before ho managed to unlock tho door and get outside. The building wns located in tho rear of tho homo of Robert L. Buckles, GOG North Ivanhoo street, and was rented from Mr. Buckles by Mr. Barton. The lots is estimated at $100. Mr. Barton stayed tho remain der of the night at the homo of Mr. Buckles and Sunday wont to tho hospital for treatment. His burns are considered not serious. The mill will be ono of the largest in the vicinity of i hundred men. Machinery has been assembled and will be installed the first week in Dec ember. The building occupies a two acre tract adjoining that of the Swift nicking company. The 10 acre tract adjoining M10 Swift holdings recently pur chased by the Alladin company of Hay City, Mich., is being prepared for the erection of the company's plant. The Alladin concern proposes to invest $250.- 000 in buildings nnd equipment for the manufacturing of knock down houses, and will give em ployment to 200 men, Journal. The Peninsula Shipbuilding Company, which resumed oper ations a week ago after being closed for nearly two months by tho alriko of metal trades crafts men, now hns n full forco of workmen and a long waiting list of men desiring positions, it was declared by F. C. Knupp, pres ident of the company. The North Portland Uox Com- pnny, the plant, of which was destroyed recently by firo with a loss of $25,000. will -rebuild immediately, according to an nouncement.
