Hrown have returned from Prescott, Arizona, where they had spent about four weeks with their son, in Uncle Sam's service, and who had been quite ill. He is now gcttimr along in fine style. Among the measures carrying at the polls Tuesday was tho one providing for playgrounds, and St. Johns will, by virtue there of, be provided with nood sized playgrounds fully equipped. Just where it will bo located will be decided delinitely later, but there are several suitable tracts in view. At the session of the Free Methodist Annual Conference. which closad in Portland June 1st, Hcv. E. D. Blackman, of The Dalles was appointed to the pastorate of tho I'ree Methodist church in St. Johns, located at the corner of East Richmond and Hudson streets. Mrs. Black burn is also a preacher of abili ty. All are cordially invited to attend the services. Tho piano recital presented by the pupilB of Misit Georgia Rich, assisted by Elmer Sliced, violinist, given in the James John High School auditorium Inst evening, wai an most en joyable event. As in always tho case when Miss Rich's pupils give a recital, the attendance was large and the excellent pio gram thoroughly enjoyed. All participants acquitted them selves superbly. She wan bom in the state of New York and came to St. Johns about three months ago from West Plains, Mo., Heart failure was tho cause of her death. She was aged 01 yoars and 27 days. Burton, pastor of tho St. Johns Baptist church, had tho plensuro of ollicint inu at a very prominent and largoly attended church wodding at the Third Baptist church, of Portland, on Monday ovon- ing, June 2nd. I ho contracting parties woro Mr. William Mek kors and Miss Jessie E. Ware, both of Portland. Tho bride is a very prominent member of tho church in which they were marriod. This was a military wodding. The bridogroom and his host man were dressed in tho soldier uniform. It would seem that the St. Johns library is a repository for other things than books judging from tho number of cops, gloves, umbrellas, baseball mitts and other miscellaneous articles left and not called for. We are thinking of having an auction and using the proceeds to buy a new flag which is much needed for the library. How ever, we will give losers a last chance to come and claim their property. Reported. Rev. E. Burton, pastor of the local Baptist church, has been invited to supply the pulpit of the First Baptist church of San Francisco on June 8th and 15th, which invitation he has accepted and left for that city on Thurs day evening. The local pulpit will be supplied Sunday fore noon by Mrs. Burton. There will be no evening service, the congregation uniting in the Union service at the High S"bl. Devout Jews make much of the occasion in com memoration of the giving of the Ten Commandments on Sinai. Il luminated Christians honor it for the same reason, and for the still greater reason that on that day Christ's first disciplos wore "all tilled with the Holy Spirit" and empowered for their world winning task.
