John H. Knowles, past master
of Hawthorno lodge, A. I', and
A. Mt, died Sunday afternoon
at Good Samaritan hospital of
fractured skull sustained
while ho was at work at tho
Northwest Steel Company's yard
March 12. Knowles was a civil
engineer and was engaged in
aying out work at tno shipyard
when he was struck by a heavy
)ilo of fa in steel. Ho wan
rescued by a fellow workmen and
rushed to tho hospital. Knowles
was 38 years of age, and resided
at 720 East Eleventh street. Ho
is survived by his widow, one
daughter. Merle: his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. J. n. Knowles tr.,
and five brothers, R. II., D. II.,
G. II., E. H., and F, H. Knowles,
all of Portland. Knowles was
born in Beaver, Minn., and has
ved n Port and for 14 years.
Tho funeral was held from Fin-
ey's chapel, at 1 o'clock Tuesday
afternoon with Rev. F. L. Par
sons officiating. Pallbearers
were from Hawthorno lodge.
