In Portland, Oregon, ns limit matter
of the second clnss under the Act ol Con
(pet of March 3, 1879.
There Is one cnndidate in
particular Becking the nomina
tion for County Commissioner
who should not be forgotten,
and that is Philo Holbrook. Ho
is at present a member of the
County Commissioner Board, and
has made a record that is pleas
ing to the taxpayers. Mr. Hol
brook is a man who believes in
quietly and carefully and faith
fully attending to the duties of
his office in an economically and
practical manner. He is not the
kind that delight in getting out
on the house tops and Hhouting
the fact when ho has performed
a commendable duty, and the
limelight has no attraction to
him. Ho believes in letting his
good works speak for themsel
ves. Ah one studies nnd weighs
his actions as a County Com
missioner ho can scarce help but
conclude that Mr. Holbrook has
made a good and faithful public
servant. Ho probably has made
some mistakes- he would not
bo human were it not so- but it
is through mistakes that one
gains memorable exporience.and
having gained such he will not
make them mruin. as a new an
untrained man would all proba
bility do. Mr. Holbrook bat)
shown a disposition to favor th
part of the county in the way o
public improvements, which
more than can lie tmiil of hoiiu
men who have Korved an Com
missioners. And ho having
man like Mr. Holbrook at th
head of county ull'iiim, why not
keep him there; ( orpornlion
make a juiccchk of liiiHineMH
cause they take pains to rctai
their employes who have mad
good, and why should not sue
be the cuso in political life? It
elect Holbrook and the interest
of the taxpayers will be saf
guarded.
