We ask you to come in and investigate. In these days when every heart thrills with patriotic emotions, and every' one is disposed to do "their bit" the demands upon us in a financial way are somewhat heavy, 'and ev ery dollar we can sav.e by judicious buying will enable us to invest more in those things that will help in saving our country and adding some comfort? for the boys at the front who are making the supreme sac rifice. And, again, let us wish you a happy and prosperous New Year. D. C. Elys Cash Store "Sells For Less" 113 West Burlington Street ! Cobb Bros.1 Old Stand I'GET.THE 1IABIT-.TRADB ly, home W. Buchanan. When New Year's Comes Shall we make new resolutions? For the first of the year? If we do we must get busy For it is almost here. That now resolves will all be kept We need not be afraid. But any how it's just as well If some effort is made. And when our friends tell what they are, We know they will not last. For well we know in a few weeks They'll be things of the paBt. XIO kJVi btV.1 VV HUTU ttllU lUQb Thnt is some folks' belief. And bo when Now Year's comes around They turn o'er a new leaf. Now if you think you can im prove On the year you lived through. Best wishes I extend to and hope Success will come to you. What ever change that you may make The future brighter look. Don't turn a leaf or any page, But start with a new nook. So for thnt night we plan ahead borne place where wo wil go To church, watch meeting or with friends, To dance or to some show. Wo plan to have n jolly time, bo early we begin. When e'er we wntch the old year out And watch the new one in. There's many ways to celebrate We choose our own somehow. And stillness reigns when they announce The year is passing now. And as wc look upon the hands Wo keen a watchful eye. And when both hands are over twelve Wo know the year's gono by. The bells are rung the whistles FOUR AT ELY'S blow ' Tho hands move towards one; We start for home and all real ize rnl . - . 1 t xne new year nas ocgun. When a lawyer makes a mis take, it's just what he wanted, because he has a chance to try the case all over again. When a carpenter makes a mistake, 'tis just what he ex pected, because the chances arc ten to one he never learned his business. When an electrician makes a mistake, the blames it on "in duction," because nobody knows what that is. When a doctor makes a mis take, he buries it. When a judge makes a mis take, it becomes the law of the land. Exchange. Davis, Secretary, TO OUR FRIENDS AND PATRONS: St. Johns never before had such a Christmas business as the merchants have all had this year. The buying public never was so good natured, so considerate of the overworked sales people as they have been this season. For this spirit we, and all of our help, are grateful. So we thank you for your generous patronage and extend to you our best wishes for a most happy and prosperous nineteen hundred eighteen. BONHAM L. E. ROSE, Mgr.
