Patronize the Review advertisers, To Put on Play It is learned that the local council of the Knights and Ladies of Security in connec tion with the drive they are launching for membership will produce a high class comic opera in the near future. The production will be. staged in one of the large theatres of Portland and some of the best local talent have signified their willingness to participate in its rendition. Mr. Harry DuRoss, a proiessional operatic tenor singer and stage director, will take charge of the production. Rehearsals will be taken up immediately after the holidays and will he carried on to a speedy completion. Mr, Du Ross comes highly recommended as a singer and director, having been connected for a number of years with some of the lead ing operatic organizations ol tho country. A large chorus will be assembled and trained to perfection nnd the lodge would like that any who desire to assist in this pleasant work would communicate either with Mr. DuRoss or the secretary of the council, stating the voice parts and their address and phone number if possible, it is to bo regretted that St. Johns has no suitnblo play house in which to givo this most worthy production, nnd wo hopo that in the near future somo pub lic spirited person or persons will confer a great fuvor upon our community and a lasting fume to their nnmo by giving our city a first class opera house. A Bonus Probable In order to stimulate product ion and encourago men to enter the shipbuilding trades, tho government has decided to pay bonus of 10 per cent to ship yard workers who nvorago full six days a week. Telegraphic instructions to this ell'ect ImvoJjust been re coived from tho United States shipping board by officials of tho local shipbuilding compan ics engaged on ship construe tion for tlu! government. Ac cording to the orders, men working on commandeered ships will share equally with thoso who are building vessels on direct government contracts. The bonus system will result in adding thousands of dollars weekly to tho already largo pay roll of the yards, and it is ex nected that Uncle Sam's Christ mns present to tho workers wil result in n marked speeding up of individual etiort. Tho fact that a worker will forfeit his bonus if he does not put in a full week's time will servo to keen the men steadily at work, something that tends to ciheient organization and operation. It is expected that complete nstructions soon will be re ceived by tho shipbuilding con cerns, as the present one confine themselves to tho announce ment of the program, but do not include details as to how the ards are to be reimbursed by tho government for the bonuses which they will pay as repre sentatives of the government and do not state whether work ers whose wages are above the minimum scale will bo paid the full 10 per cent.
