Frances Avey, of CM East New York street, who has been confined to her home with a severe cold, is recovering rapidly. Word from Dr. B. F. Rambo, former well known dentist of St. Johns, but now located at Montesano, Wash., states that all arc well and business fine. R. Hanson, who has been spending the summer in the Alberta country in Canadn, where he was engaged in farm ing, has returned to St. Johns for the Winter. zm0 Bring in Your Job Printing Now The Star Sand Co. states that the report of their pro perty at the foot of Richmond street being converted into a steel shipbuilding plant is with out foundation. It is suid that the reason a larger loaf of bread at a less price may be sold in England than in the United btates is because the British govcrment bears half of the expense. B. A. Nichols, who has been spending several weeks in Ken tucky, has returned to bt. Johns. He says Oregon looks much better to him than Kentucky. A. O. Beam, who sustained two broken wrists and was otherwise injured in a fall while painting the Chicago Rooming House recently, is able to be around again, a fact which his friends will be glad to note. In honor of the second birth day their little daughter Tues day, Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Over street entertained the following at dinner on that evening: Mr. Schilling, Dr and Mrs. Goode, Miss A da Overstreet. Mrs. Rogers and daughter and Dr. and Mrs. H. F. Jones. The event was greatly enjoyed. The Mothers' meeting of the Women's Christian Temperance Union will meet at the home of Mrs. J. C. Scott, 102 Central avenue, next Monday afternoon at two o'clock. At 2:30 all will repair to the church where the picture of Francis E. Willard will be presented to the Adveh tist School. We will be heartily welcomed by the teacher, Miss L. Fountaine and after appro, priate exercises by the children the picture will be presented by Mrs. S. J. Kerr, superin tendent of Mothers' meetings. Reporter. Kemp, a prominent farmer and stock raiser of Al berta, Canada, and wife are guests at the home of the former's mother, Mrs. Sarah Kemp, of St. Johns. After visiting for some weeks here and in this vicinity, they will go to California, where they will spend the winter. Announcement of the wedding of Samuel II. Douglas, of Hood River and Miss Perditia Fleener, of St. Johns was made this week. The wedding took place at Vancouver, Wash., July 18th, but the young couple kept It a secret in order to surprise their friends. The St. Johns Furniture store, 111 Philadelphia street, left a range on the walk Hallowe'en. The next morning the range could not be found.- They did everything but drag the river. Then "Daddy" Kerr came forth with the information that the range was in the hall over the Peninsula National Bank. It is now in the store and offered for sale at a reduced price. The Knights of Phythias gave a delightful dancing party in Bickner hall last rriday evenintr. which was well attend- ed and highly enjoyed.. Portland Recorder-Abstract. Owing to his largo and grow ing practice, Dr. W. J. Gilstrap has taken in a partner in the person of Dr. E. H. Seeley, of Medford, and the firm name hereafter will bo Gilstrap &See ley. Dr. Seeley is rated as one of the best and most prominent physicians and surgeons of Southern Oregon, and is an old time friend of Dr. Gilstrap. The Jolly 'Steen club met at tho home of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Muck Wednesday evening, where a most enjoyable time was had. The homo was attractively dec orated with Hallowe'en adorn ments.
