Fireman Peterson and other firemen are deserving of the highest meed of praise for their heroism in licnting trio lire on the ferry bont Monday night. Inspitoof the fact that the tanks contained sixty gallons or more of oil. they went right down on and around the tanks in cxtin' guishing the (lames. Had the oil exnloded the lives of the fire men would no doubt have been forfeited and the asbestos plant, Hour mills and saw mill, and other buildings would probably have been sot on fire. Certainly St. Johns has firemen second to none, as has been amply demon- stratcd time and again. The rapidity with which they get the fire truck out and in motion has often caused much astonishment on the purt of the people of the city. Strenuous efforts should bo nut forth to have the firemen retained when merging has been effected. "Got Wholluped" Linnton wholluped St. Johns last Sundny 11-7 at St. Johns. Wilson and Van Dolah opposed Irish" loss and rotors. Linn ton gathered ten hits oil St. Johns, whilo seven was the best St. Johns could do. Wilson fanned a dozen of St. Johns men and pitched a steady game. Grovcr and Foss pitched good ball, the former whiffing eleven men in six innings while three more were added by Foss. Linn ton chased four runs across in the first by error and two hits. Three hits and two walks made three for St. Johns in tho third but Linnton was never headed. Errors figured in most of tho re maining scoring. With tho score 8-7 in tho first of the ninth in Linnton's favor, James Tufts dropped Van Dolah's lino drive and this was the undoing of St. Johns as four runs were made and tho game lost. Peters the veteran catcher for tho old Huh- iness Men donned tho pad and mask for tho first time this IF I ONLY HAD THAT MONEY 4 THE BANK NOW QUIT THAT GET RICH QUICK SPECULATION TV'S? "Last year I had some money saved up," he said, "and IF I had kept it in the Bank and left it there it would be there NOW, with more added to it. But a stranger came along with an enticing looking scheme and I bit. If I hacl any sense I would have asked my BANKER about those 'good things' before I invested and LOST my money."
