The old rock crusher owned by the city of St. Johns, which was used for a timoatthenuarrv. but of late is out of commission and in the way at the nuarrv. the city thought best to remove it to a more convenient place where it could be cared for and shown to prospective buyers in case they wished to sell it. In mov ing it the crusher was loaded upon a heavy truck while some ii ii. i. in ii .... uisiance up uiu inn, uiun a wiro cable was attached to the truck and it was started on its jour ney, with several men on the tongue to guide it down. It had not gone far when the cable broke and the weight of the crusher forced the truck two thirds of the way down tho hill. f he men on tho tongue seeing their peril, fled for safety. The truck turned turtle and came near landing in tho end of Doc Smith's saloon, and nearly scar ed the wits out ot some of Doc's customers. The crusher was quite badly damaged. Prospects look bright for tho Hillside Drive, which has been taking its promoters so long to get started. Almost everything has been removed that hindered the actual construction work be ginning, and it is hoped that construction work will begin within two or three weeks. This will mean vastly more to our city than at first would be imagined. Next 'week we will try to give our readers something of the history of this big improvement. E. L. A Chicken Coop Question Editor Review: Would it not be a good idea if the city coun cil would pass ap ordinance whereby no citizon Bhould be al lowed to maintain a chicken coop or yard within fifty feet or more of any dwelling' Would not such a law enhance the sani tary conditions of the city, and prove a big factor in preventing the spread of disease? It is a well established fact that the chicken, with the single excep tion of the hog, is the dirtiest and most unsanitary domestic creature in existence, und if they must bo kept within the city limits, there appears to be no good reason why they should not be confined within a safe distance from any habitation. In the Eastern cities and towns fifty feet is invariably the mini mum. A recommendation from the board of health along this line would be welcomed. Subscriber.
