The regular meeting of the St. Johns Commercial club will bo held next Wednesday evening, having been postponed for one week owing to the inability of several committes to complete their reports in time for a meet ing this week. The original estimate of $1,000,000 as the cost of this im provement has been increased to $6,000,000, and it is expected that 5.000.000 tons of rock will be renuired in the work. The finvernment officials have an nounced that the south jetty, which was commenced in 1885, is now complete and that tne task of transferring the equip ment to the north side of the river will be taken tin at once. It is expected that confining the current to the narrow cnannei between the two jetties will re suit in a permanent depth of not less than 40 feet on tne uar.
