That Linnton Contract St. Johns. April 28. -The fol lowing nrticlo appeared in tho St. Johns Review April 18: The city of Linnton has let the contract for installing a water works system to connect with Bull Run pipes at the southern limit of Portland, the contract price being 5)2,000 odd dollars. The natural query is: If it costs Linnton this large sum to to construct a pipe lino about seven milos long and running along its very few streets, without the oxponso of a pumping station, how much would it cost the city of St. Johns to construct thirty milos of pipe, some of it through hard surface streets, and nearly all of it through improved streets, wore such a contingency to nriso? Respectfully referred to Chas. Anderson, the Socialist, for an approximate estimate. Tho writer did not sign his name, but I huve an idea who it is, and do not blame him for not wanting to sign such a crude proposition and comparison as he puts up. Replying, I wish to say that ho (Ioob not give me or the read ers the sizes of any pipes to be used in tho Linnton system; .whether 1, 2, 3, or 1 inch, but it scorns to mo that ho is trying to impress on tho water users ol our city that $100,000, the amount previously proposod by me as a sudicicnt sum to install Bull Run water in St. Johns, is entirely an inadequate amount to install DO miles of pipe line, such as our sister city across the river is constructing. Also that the olfor of the St.Johns Water com pany to sell their plant' to the city is a snap olfor the city should jump at, lor $150,000. Tho fact is, wo have no HO miles 6T pipe line to construct. Kumemnor, mo null Kim main pipe line in already at Hast St. Johns, and the amount of water it carries is suilleient to supply St. Johns for the next 15 or 20 years, based on its present rate of growth. This will bear rigid investigation. My capitalisticminded friend. When you think shopping: think shopping in St. Johns first and think of Bonham & Currier next and always keep in mind that every dollar spent St. Johns makes a bigger and better St. Johns. BONHAM & CURRIER in 1 or J1 The present day, with its ill conditions and many evils, is the di rect result of the control of the leading interests of the country by the "special privilege" class. The only way in which this evil may be counteracted is by closing the avenues whereby the CONTROL OP IN TERESTS, by the few, is obtained. The Bonville 99-Year System takes the control from the few and gives it to the many. The subject matter of this system is protected by 30 different copyrights, secured from the U. S. Government in 1910-11-12. When this System is understood by the people, they will no longer be deceived bv "investigations" of big corporations, but will de mand their rights. The wholesale robberies now carried on thro" stock transference and sanctioned by the law, will no longer be "tolerated. The 99-Year System has torn away the' disguise, and the people are beginning to see things as they are. Full particulars may be obtained in the By-Laws of the Bonville -99-Year System published and sold by Frank Bonyille, Portland, Ore gon. Price. 10 cents. 'I V
