The first annual Fall flower , show to be held in Portland will j be staged in the Armory Nov.15 and 1G. The Portland l'iorai so ciety will hold the event and reg ular shows are planned hereafter at different seasons of the year. Handsome prizes have been pro vided, both cups and cash prem iums. J. S. McKinney is the proud possessor of sixteen fine and sturdy young Chinese pheasants. He secured the eggs in May and gave one of his hens the job of hatching them out. This it did to perfection, with the result that sixteen pheasants were ushered into the world. McKinney and Davis have dis posed of three lots recently in Block 0, facing on Polk, Tyler and Gresham streets, respective ly. They were purchased by newcomers to St. Johns, namely, Messrs. Nutting, Goddard and Moff it Two of the new comers are erecting residences on the lots, and the third is contempla ting doing so soon. Fred Mossman, well known in this city, and formerly a mem ber of the Willamette Four, was married at Manhattan, Kansas, October 16th, to Miss Gladys Grace Deaver of that city. He is first assistant engineer and foreman of the boiler rooms in the Manhattan Agricultural Col lege. His friends here wish him all the joy and happiness that married life affords. Currin and wife have returned from a pleasant fort night's visit to Hood River, Tho Dalles, Goldendale and other cit ies of interest up the Columbia. Tho Peninsula Herald camo out this week in a special indus trial edition that is a credit tothe Herald ofllco and Peninsula as well. It is crammed full of int erest pertaining to the peninsula and surroundings. The postal authorites have ac cepted a ten year lease on the McChesney room for the sub sta tion when free mail delivery comes into vogue January first. Tho room will be handsomely embellished in quarter oak and finely finished. The vocal studio of Ben Crow has opened in Room 8 of the First National Bank Building. His hours are from ten to twelve and from one-thirty to five on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays; also evenings by appointment. Phone Columbia 590. Rider Cormany brought to this office Tuesday a Hubbard squash that weighed 355 pounds, which was grown at the Stearns home on Willamette boulevard. It is simply immense. J. W. Strain of 1007 East Tyler street also brought in a beet which he rai sed on his lot that tipped the scales at 11 and one quarter pou nds, and two hugh carrots that weighed almost four pounds. Can any one beat it? The Northern Pacific Railroad has just issued neat and attract ive booklets which will be scat tered throughout the Eastern states descriptive of the agricul tural possibilities of the great Northwest It is an interesting publication and will no doubt prove of material benefit in fur ther populating the best portion of the globe the Northwest. It is 30 acres in extent and although the crop this year will be somewhat light er than usual, it will produce 12 carloads of fine fruit. The price for the Hopkins pears has never been less than $2 per box and some seasons the price has been considerably higher. A Chinese pheasant made a strenuous effort to get into the council chamber of the city hall last week while the council was in session.
