Think This Over, Voter
I deem it my duty to the citizens
of this city to bring frosli to their
minds whnt some of the present
candidates for office for this city hns
done heretofore, nud wc hnve 110
reasons to believe thnt they would
do better If they wetc elected again.
Now, you nil will roinentlwr when
Mr. A. W. Davis was in office what
he did for the benefit of St. Johns.
He was instrumental iu letting and
leasing to the milling company the
foot of Hurlington street nud the
southerly hnlf of Hrndford street for
nbout fioo feet, so that owners of
property 011 the northerly Hide of
said street had to put thin Hiding on
their own laud, for there wait not
room enough to put iu another Hid
ing on this northerly half of Hrnd
ford street. If you will remember
that I, the undersigned, did go to
the mayor, Mr. Hendricks, nud told
him that the milling company wo
putting up n water tank at the foot
of Hurlington street. I persuaded
him to call n special meeting of the
council for the purpose of ordering
the milling company off of Hurling
ton street. The order win made,
aud the milling company com
menced to take up the cement piers
that had been put iu as foundation
for the water tonic. Then, nil at
once, work stopped, and it whh
stated by several citir.etM that Mr.
Davis had been to sec the milling
company and you could see why
the mill company did stop taking
out the piers. And now Mr. Davis
hus come out for mayor of thin city
and has 011 his curds "a safe nud
sane business administration," mid
says if elected he would hnve the
water company reduce its price ol
water, nud so on. Now I think, if
the said A. W. Davis is elected
mayor of St. Johns, be will do ns he
ins done lieretolore regarding liiv
uteres! of the citizens of bt. John.
t is evident that he wants the of
fice, nud I think he wants it for the
money mat is 111 11. now 1 io
think tbnt every snue voter 111 m.
alms can see why the Mid A. .
Davis did place 011 his curd the
imposition of getting cheatwr wa
ter if lie was elected mayor. Now
I investigated this frnuchUe year
ugo, and tbe only wuy tnm water
cnu be forced to Portland woe is
to ko into Portland, or have view
ers appointed to uppraU the water
company's utilities, and after the
appraisement lias been mime tuc
municipal authorities could make
this offer to the wnter company ,aud
I the wnter coitiiKiny refunes the
offer, then the council could call an
lection for the purpose of voting
bonds to put iu n water system.
riiis is the only wny that this wa
ter question cnu be regulated at the
present time. Now I do think that
nil that would vote for u party that
would try to pull the wool over
their eyes would vote against the
jest interests nt tbe ciuxeus u fli

and the said sewer wus not iu a
condition to be accepted. This looks
as though there was something
more than friendship to this, and I
do not think any one that has been
elected to serve the people ami are
sworn to protect the best interests
of the people should do this. Now
do you think the council did for the
best interests of the people wbeu
they accepted that sewer before it
was finished, and it is not a good
sewer today. Any one can go and
investigate the said sewer. 1 nen

the names of the parties that voted
for this sewer are Messrs. Valen
tine, Davis and Muck. Those that
voted against the acceptance are
Messrs. Hill, Horsmau and Urede
son; Mr. Perrine was absent, and
the mayor voted for acceptance. If
Mr. Couch had voted against it it
would have been lost, and then we
would have had a good sewer be
fore having to pay for it. These
are records, and cannot be disputed.
