A combined statewide effort is to be made this year, in Pennsylvania, to elect members to the legislature who will vote to enact a law abol ishing the custom of treating An Anti- Treating I.aw. A bill mak ing it a criminal offence for anyone to give or accept a treat at the bar or anywhere else on the premises of any licensed hotel or drinking place; an offense punishable with 11 heavy fine, and the revoking of the license and half of the flue to go to the in- lormer. it is urged by lite pro moters of the bill that such a law will be the means of preventing bar room loafing as well as criminal suits which originate from accidents and deaths caused directly by ex cessive drinking by mixed or indis criminate crowds. High schools throughout the state and a number in Oregon and Wash ington have accepted the invitation of the University of California to compete in the second Pacific Coast Iutcrscholastic meet to be held on the campus April 26 and 27. The meet to which the St. Johns High among others in this vicinity has been Invited, will undoubtedly be the most important event 011 the coast in the realm of high school athletics.
