The Ball Started PROPOSED ORDINANCE NO.. The annexation of St. Johns to Portland is not to the liking of J.H. Ilolbrook and a number of other prominent citizens of the suburban town. Today they filed in the Circuit Court a petition asking for an injunction restraining Mayor Si mon and the Portland council from taking the final steps in the process of friendly assimilation. They al so ask that the mayor and recorder of St. Johns be restrained from turn ing over to Portland authorities the records or property of the smaller municipality. The petition was filed by Attor ney George J. Perkins in the name of K. W. McKeou, C. C. Oihus, T. II. Cochran. Joseph McChesucy, Peter Aut7.cn, A. M. Steams, J. Ii. Ilolbrook, M. h. Ilolbrook, Port laud Manufacturing Company, Pe ninsula Iron Works and Lawrence Ilolbrook. It was directed against Mayor Joseph Simon, Auditor A. L. llarbur, George T. linker and 14 other Portland couucilmcu, and Mayor K. C. Couch and Recorder 1 A. Rice of St. Johns. Irregularities in the election for annexation held in St. Johns in No vember last arc made the basis for the demand for the restraining or der. The first complaint is that of the 662 electors who voted on the annexation proposition, a large number did not live within the city limits mid should have had no voice in the matter. The total vote was 362 in favor of annexation and and 300 opposed. However, it is asserted that precinct 158, where 145 affirmative votes were recorded to 78 opposed, comiwscs a territory that is two thirds outside the town. The claim is made that if the vot iug had been confined in this dis trict to the townspeople, the result would have been different. In the other two precincts the vote stood An Ordinance Authorizing (lie Oregon Railroad and Navi gation Company, Its Succes sors and Assigns, to Lay a Side Track and Run Cars Over and Along the North Side of Bradford Street, Be tween a Point on the Main Line of tiic Oregon Railroad and Navigation Company, One Hundred (100) Feet Westerly Along the Said Alain Line From the West Line of John Street to a Point Fifty (50) Feet Oast of the East Line of Burling ton Street, All in the City of St. Johns.
