FRIDAY, AUGUST 5, toto A stntctnetit made in Inst week's Review regarding the sewer ques tion is said to need a little correct ing. The claim made that the sewer pipe now being removed from Phil adelphia street collapsed in sections and other sections were split from one cud to the other leaves a wrong impression, nccotdiug to the con tractor and others who have been witnessing the process of removing the old pipe. The reason of the collapse they say was not on ac count of the poor quality of the pipe, as intimated last week, hut tvns done by workmen in their efforts to remove it. Wc make this correction in simple justice to the vitriticd pljx: manufacturers and be cause it Is not our intention to ere- ntc a false impression concerning any product Hint might be used In , public or private work. As to i which pipe vitrified or cement ' Is best for sewerage purposes is up . to the city council to decide, ami I wc feel assured that the best in their judgment, after careful i lives-' j ligation, will be adopted. I Paschal Enjoying Himself llouulc D0011 Camp, 11 mi r Mint, Nohn lem Valley, Oregon. wen, ,Mr. luiitor, my wile says , sue thinks it almost time that I was earning that Roosevelt salary of S $2.50 per, no here goes for the first I installment. Weather and camping conditions ideal. I'limlly enjoying themselves to the full limit. 1'ish- lug fine, 111 fact wc have more than ' wc can consume and are feeding the natives with Njxrcklcd beauties. There Is plenty of deer, we huve half of 11 two year old buck hang ing up in ciimpnow, so you see wc arc not ho slow, at least the family arc not starving. Geo. I'errinc, his brother, an artist from New York, with their nephew, James Hill, road supcriii I teudeut, were in camp last .Satur day and the artist said he never saw anything as near Ideal ns our (that was the only name they could find for It that time) was in camp. The young men took to tall timber and u high fence that was conveniently close, from which point they witnessed the total dis truetlou of their camp and all their belongings, and to make matters worse, they had to go to sleep that night in a hay loft hungry. The natives are not only very peaceable and docile but they are generous to a fault, especially to persons in dis tress. So in a very short time they had fitted them out with cooking utensils, bedding and wearing ap narel. They sent out for a new supply of provisions. It took sev cral davs for them to net their tier votis systems in working order. Mr. Dailey declares that he saw the biggest he cow that night that he has ever seen In all his travels, in eluding the fat stock shows held at the Lewis & Clark fair, the Seattle fair lasi year and the fat stock show at the Country Club last year. He has been trying to get Mr. Peterson to enter that bull at the next world's exhibit, and says that he is ready to bet his last dollar against a pair of new pants that he will take first premium for sir.e, agility, and destructiveiicss. I would advise Mr. Bailey's friends not to mention cows or their lords and masters in his presence for some time to come, for it might be hard on his nervous system. Yours truly, P.lllll. ----- -- Mabel Runlg, the crippled or phan of whom mention was made in last week's Review, was operated upon during the past week, and the operation was pronounced n success. Hvron Poll and Harris i "uwkiiis gave a must iiimhic Mothers' Meeting of the home of arrived yesterday morning and have established their camp n short dis tance down the river. They report having scon three deer yesterday. They caught a large string of trout, also that they captured a cub bear, but he escaped last evening. Mrs. II ill left camp early thU morning for Clatskauie to meet Dr. Rambo and wife, who are on their way to this haven of ret and the true sportsman's paradise. Mrs. II. took my brother listen to the train this morning, u nice drive of 15 mile). He took yesterday's catch, 49 as fine mountain beauties as you ever saw, not over large, but nil fiotu 10 to 16 inches iu length. Thete has been a good bit of mer riment and fun at the expense of two affable and intelligent appear ing young men who go by the name of Bailey and Manning, and claim St. Johns as their place of residence. When they first arrived they entertained the natives with stories of their travels and explora tion of many countries, including Africa, South America, Alaska, the northern seas and other coun tries too numerous to mention. Hut here is where they got their' s. They had not been here long when one night they pitched their tent iu Nels. Peterson's bend, where he keeps his dairy herd. The night beiug ideal, they did not begiu cooking their dinner until about 10 p. m. When the meal was about ready and just us their valet was about to announce the same, there was heard a great commotion and disturbance iu the underbrush near at hand, and before you could say "Jock Robiuson," the "What is it" tive talk on "National Congress of Mothers iu Action and What it is Doing." As Mrs. Hawkins just returned from the congress or moth urs' convention held at Denver, she had many good things of interest to tell us. At the close of the pro gram all remained for u social time. Press Correspondent. Geo. L. Perriue and artist brother, Van, are ruminating iu the wilds of the Nelialcin country.
