A Are broke out at the home of
A. W. Markle on South Ivauhoe
Tuesday morning about 11 o'clock.
The fire boys were at the scene
within ten minutes after the alarm
was turned in, and with their usual
celerity quickly subdued the flames.
The fire apparently started from a
defective flue and the damage from
tire and water will likely reach be
tween $300 nnd f.too. Had the
chemical engine carriage uot brok
en down on the way the loss 110
doubt would have been appreciably
ess. An unfortunate feature was
K. C. Conch getting a finger caught
in the fire apparatus and cutting it
badly, several stitches being re
quired to fix it up,

The initial number of the new
magazine, llonville's Western
Monthly reached our table this
week. It is a bright youngster of
112 pages of as neat, clean clear-cut
presswork as ever came out of a
printery. It is printed on good
book paper and illustrated with
several fine halftones of Columbia
river scenery; contains aa install
ment of a very interesting serial
story and a large number of very
entertaining short stories, poems,
and a splendid list of advertising
patrons for the first issue of the
magazine. The cover design is iu
keeping with the other parts of the
number and puts the finishing
touch upon a production that the
publishers may well feel proud of.
A Card.
We desire to thus publicly ex
press our appreciation and gratitude
to the fire department and neigh
bors and friends for their kindness
and prompt action during the fire
at our home Tuesday, and assure
them that the same will not be forgotten.

Keep Bright and You
WILL KEEP BUSY
Hlectric Light is the magnet that draws trade. The
bright store is the "hypnotic eye" of business. People can
110 more resist the attraction ol 11 brilliant, lilectricnlly lighted
store than they can resist the clarion call of a brass baud.
Is your competitor with the lilectricnlly illuminated show
windows, bright iuteiior and sparkling lilectriu Sign getting
nu advantage over you? The moth never flutters around the
uiilighted cnndlc! Up-to-date stores nowadays consider
shop-window lighting n necessity, whether they remain oeii
after dark or uot. Competition forces modem methods.
A show window brilliantly illuminated with lileclrie
light will make many n sale "the night before." lilectrlc
light compels attention, makes easy the examination of your
display, shows goods iu detail and fabrics in their true colors,
And don't neglect the lilectric Sign. It is soliciting
"tomorrow's" business every moment it is lighted burning
your name iu the public mind. It is 11 solicitor that uuver
becomes weary never stops work - - costs little.
