Keep Bright and You

Hlcctric Light is the in.igiiet that draws trade. The
hright stoic is the "hypnotic eye" of business. People eiui
110 more resist t lit- attraction ol n brilliant, Ivlecti ically lighted
store than they can rcMst the clarion call of a Itrass Imud.
Is your competitor with the Eleeti ically illuminated show
windows, htight interior and sparkling Electric Sign getting
1111 advantage over you? The moth never llullers around the
unligllted caudle! Up lotliitc stores nowadays consider
shop-window lighting a necessity, whether they remain open
after dark or not. Competition forces modern methods.
A show window brilliantly illuminated with Klcclric
light will make many a sale "the night Itcfoie." Hlcctric
light compels attention, makes eisy the examination of your
display, shows goods in detail and fabrics in their true colors.
And don't neglect the Hlcctric Sign. It is soliciting
"tomorrow's" business every moment it is lighted burning
your name in (lie public mind. It is a solicitor that never
becomes weary never Mops work costs little.

A VISIT TO ROGUE RIVER
(Continued from first page)
it is to see a collection cf fruit piled
up on the cut glass (?) dish that
looks like cholera morbus.
As to climntic conditions every
resident of the Rogue river valley
will tell you to hang up your hat
and look no further. General
Passenger Agent McMurray of the
O. R. & N. said to me in Portland:
"If you want a California climate
with the disaurceable features left
out, try the Rogue River valley.
It is perfection." I have found it
so. livery dav has been just like
the ones in St. Johns when we can
see Mis. Hood and Helens. The
natty female sails down the streets
clad in Iter white goods in the good
old summer style, while the dude
is sporting his white vest and Pan
ama. Ashland claims to be the
climatic capita! of the coast, and I
believe it is. Its altitude makes it
so.
At night every building in Ash'
land is lighted Irom cellar to gar
ret and the porch lights in the res
idence districts are sufficient to
light the pedestrian on his way
The reason: Si per month pays for
four incandescent lamps, and they
are not of the brand where it is
necessary to use a kerosene lamp
to read by.
Comparing the towns I have seen
to ht. Johns brings to mind u re
mark made at Hood River last
summer by Richard Shepard who
said: "The farther I get away the
better St. Johns looks to me.
This applies to the towns. None
of them are one, two, three with
us.
As to the farming districts the
methods here are entirely different
from those of Yakima, Weuatchec,
Lake Chelan, Hood River, Idaho
and the Clarksou districts. They
lo 1101 seem lo ic as thorough as
they might be, but they are learn
iug fast. Perhaps the mild winter
has something to do with it. And
maybe it is the tendency for large
holdings. Hut some of the largest
orchards are as neat as the prover
bial pin. These are the ones they

When they get the fruit game down
as line as Hood River, put your
money on the Rogue. And paste
this in your hat.
This southern section of Oregon
dots not confine itself to fruit.
Medford in an attractive pamphlet
claims it lias more natural resources
within a 50-inilc radius than any
other oiut in the United States. 1
believe it is the truth. The re
sources of this section are almost
beyond comprehension. A jK-rson
must come and see for himself,
And it will take time lo see it all.

The cost of living is nominal.

I saw a small load of fir bark soU!
on the streets for S.i. There Is
plenty of timber in the hills, but
the K'ople can make more money
than iy cutting wood.
It is not all play, this fruit farm

plow and disc and hunt the elusive

ardists may be likened to the moth

several that looked good to him,

wants a farm right iu town. They
were greatly pleased witli St. Johns
and predict a great future for our
city. Hoth declared we made

Now, there are would be cor
oners and coroners, and we think
theie ate a number of them very
good men, perhaps any of them
would seive the people with credit,
but there is one man who appeals
most strongly to us, Mr. Ericson,
the first man to promise the Fast
Side a look iu for any of the bus
iness of the coroner's office. Mr.
Kricon first promised a deputy fbr
the Fast Side. Others have fol
lowed his example, but he is the
pioneer iu this hue of justice and as
such we think him entitled to the
undivided support of the Fast Side.
Let's give it to him.

Something to be Proud of.
The surroundings of the city
