Keep Bright and You
WILL KEEP BUSY
Electric Light is the magnet that draws trade. The
bright store is the "hypnotic eye" of business. People can
no more resist the attraction ol a brilliant, Electrically lighted
store than they can resist the clarion call of a brass baud.
Is your coiiietitor with the Electrically illuminated show
windows, bright interior and sparkling Electric Sign getting
an advantage over you? The moth never flutters around the
uulighlcil candle! Up to-datc stores nowadays consider
shop-window lighting a necessity, whether they remain open
after dark or not. Competition forces modern methods.
A show window brilliantly illuminated with Electric
light will make many a sale "the night before." Electric
light compels attention, makes eisy the examination of your
display, shows goods in detail and fabrics in their true colors.
And don't neglect the Electric Sign. It is soliciting
"tomorrow's" business every moment it is lighted burning
your name in the public mind. It is a solicitor that never
becomes weary never stops work costs little.

pushed as rapidly as desired.
If thev had never accomplished
anything during their term of office
except to secure the site and
erection of the city dock and th
completion as they have done
the city hall, and the purchase
the rock quarry and stone crusher,
tlie.se three items would stand as
monument which would foreve
mark their term of office as one
the most successful in the history
of the city to date.
There are many other achieve
incuts which may be placed
their credit which on the spur
the moment do not come to us
and much of their work was done
before we had the privilege of cal
inir bt. Johns our home, which w
know but little of. Enough
known, however, that we can cher
isli thc.scutimcnt for them expressed
by the poet when he. said that only
the good that men do lives afte
them, the evil deeds are interred
with their bones.
There are other things we might
say sucn as rcqtiicscut en pace,

have for the incoming officers th

they work for the best interests

wrong, will in the kindliest spirit

in return the free use of our col

I,et us all remember that we are
working together for the common
good of the entire community, not

or for the special good of a single
class. We do not take up each
individual member of the new couti
ell and speak of his virtues because
every one of tuem is better known
to every resident here than to our
selves, but we do not hesitate to
say they are all good men aud will
give us a good account of them
selves during the coming year.
For Joint Representative.
I beg to announce myself as
candidate for the nomination for
representative in the Seventeenth
District, subject to the decision of
the Republican voters of Clackamas
aud Multnomah counties at the
primary electiou on April 17th.
If 1 am nominated aud elected I
will, during my term of office, sup

oppose graft, humbug and tleina-

for the people of my district. I
will do my duty as I see it aud will
not take dictation from any men or

I will vote for the Republican
