FRIDAY, APRII, 10, 1908.
It wns rumored that T. T. Gccr
had severed Ills editorial connec
tion with Ills pajKT to campaign
the state. Such, however, is not
the case, hut Mr. Geer, whose pub
lic record needs no commentary, is
before the people and his thousands
of friends will work for him during
the campaign.

We are very sorry to note the
failure of I he city park bonds to
carry. Wc arc sure if our people
knew what n city park means to
the weary mill worker, the tired
housewife, the invalid: when these
individuals can get a Holiday or an
idle hour for recreation, when they
can go out on the cliff under the
simile of the great firs and rest in
hammock or settee mid watch the
craft plying upon the river or see
the big city up the Willamette or
the birds in the trees ova head and
over the river, while they rest from
their toil or rectipeinte fiom the
ill effects of disease, and If they
could be made to icali.e that all
this can be obtained ut 11 small
cost to the entire city now, that
a few years hence will cost many
times ns much if it can be obtained
nt any price, we believe the vote
would be different than the one
just made. We believe If this .shall
be presented proiierly to the jieoplc
mid an opportunity given them to
vote on the bonds they would
carry.and we hoje those most in
terested will present the matter
again in June.
C. N. McArthur is it candidate
for nomination for joint represen

"If I nm nominated and elected 1

pose graft, humbug, and demagog
ism, and will work industriously
for the tieople of my district, I will
do my duty as I see it and will
take dictation from 110 man or set
of men." All of which sounds good
and commands our admiration, but
unfortunately lie puts in loud letters
below the foreiroiiur portion of his

If we were inclined to criticise
the action of the council we would
say that an 8 or io-ton roller we
think would be more suitable for
our class of work, but as the ma

may then be secured in exchange

taking this one to the station for

likely be more than covered by the
work done in the testing, as it can
go to the station on its own wheels.
