WE SHOULD ALL WORK
For the improvement of Phila
delphia street from Jersey street to
the wnter front.
I'or it 500-foot dock or n larger
one tit the foot of Philadelphia
street.
For the enforcement of the city
limits of St. Johns.
For the elimination of personal
nnimosities ami spile work in our
municipal life.
t
The fact of the matter is all the
citizens on the different tickets are
our own icopIe. There is very
little difference in the men. Some
may curl their hair a little tighter
limit the others, may lie a little
longer or shorter, may hear down
a little heavier 011 the wchrliini;
machine, but they are all working
lor the same object the betterment
and advancement of bt. Johns.
Some one who, perhaps, thinks
it smart to enter the lawn of their
neighbors or other people and pilfer
lite shrubbery, roses, Mowers and
other plants urowiiiL' therein, will
come to urief some of these fine
nights il he or they do not desist.
1 here have heen numerous com
plaints made to this ollice and the
citizens who have heen visited tie
aarc nicy will treat the next ier-
son Irespassinir to n tiood load of
shot.
With last week's issue Timothy
llrownhill closed his connection
wmi uie J leaver Mate Herald as
editor and manager. Mr. llrowu
hill has made a pronounced success
with the Herald. His voice was
always heard on the side of tight,
the side of good, clean government
and It made no diireieiice to him
whether it was the popular side or
ll lie stood alone. Ue was 11 strong
liiliueiice lor good in the state and
especially in his own community.
We do not know what business
Mr. llrownhill will engage in at
McMiuuvillc, hut there are tliotis-
amis who win gladly join with us
in wishing him unbounded success
and all the pleasure that comes to
the deserving in his new location.
Now that the hall is opened anil
candidates nie in the Held, let us
light for our choice with all the
energy we possess, and when the
Imttlu is over, let us as good citiens
give the victor, dining his term of
ollice the most heaity support of
which we me eatable. It is 11
wtoug idea that some ttcoplc ms
suss that ll their choice is not elect
ed they will make the winner all
the trouble and opposition they can
While he is in ollice. It shall be
the policy of this paper to work for
the election of the men we think
hast fitted for the position, not be
cause they are on one certain ticket,
aim 11 tue man we wink lor is
defeated and the woist enemy we
have in town, and we think we
have some, is elected in his place,
tue man elected will lecetve as
honest, earnest and faithful support
during his term of ollice as would
the man of our choice. We will
criticise his work where we think
he is wioug, just the same as we
would the man we vote for, and
we shall probe any good woik he
accompiiMics just as Highly as we
would the man we stiive to elect.
1 his we believe is the only couise
of true citizenship. It is the only
way to get the best service out of
our public oflicers.
