We made mention last week of
numerous complaints which had
come to us about the condition of
Mrs. T. R. Anderson and her en
vironments, which led us to believe
she was in destitute circumstances
and sadly neglected by the good
eople of our city. We have since
learned that she is possessed of con
siderable property, is not in want,
but from all that we have been able
to learn the christian people of the
city have not attended her In her
itfllictlon from a broken limb as
they should have done, and this
wns the object of the article in
question. We would like, in this

THE CITY DADS IN SESSION
Council Meets Tuesday Evening and Transacts Its
Usual Budget of Municipal Business
Building Permits Issued.
The city fathers met in their council chnmbcr Tuesday evening, all
being present except Alderman Francis, who was nbsent on leave.
Communication from the company represented by James Steele,
withdrawing his application for franchise in the gas contest and offering
in case the city decided to put in their own gas plant to construct the
same on a basis that would produce the gas at the figures offered in his
proprosed franchise, or lower, wns read.
An invitation from our fire boys to the council to attend n picnic to
be given by them on the west bank of the "beautiful Willamette" was
also read ami placed on file.
A communication to the recorder was read wherein the U. S.
I'Mdelity it Guarantee company asked for a copy of all reports made by
him to the council was rend and placet in the archives.
Hill of the Daily Horn! News was resurrected and the recorder was
instructed to notify that publication to draw on the city for the amount
oi the advertising through the bank tierc.
The following bills were allowed and paid from the general fund on
motion of Jobes: Frank Hathaway painting flag pole, ami table for hall,
$6,50; Arthur Anson, care of Mrs. Frost by ortler of Captain Hredesoti,
S4.00; Couch it Co., stamps for city, $5.00; C. A. Hatter, photograph of
James Johns for city hall, $10,00; Irwin-IIodson Co., blanks for record

On motion of I.eggett bill of John O' Hare for work on balustrade
in front of city hall was allowed from the city hall fund, $80.85.
On motion of Walker, bill of Frank Hathaway for painting window
frames and interior of hall to complete Votingferdorf contract wns
allowed, $.32.50.
The matter of fite hydrants came up on report of committees and
recommendations were made for one hydrant at the junction of Chicago
and Hayes streets, one at I vnnlioe and Fesscudeu, one at Ivnulioc and
Catlin, and one at South Jersey and Folk. After a lengthy discussion
the committee was continued to ascertain the intuitions of the water
company as to thu running of necessary mains for the hydrants.
The answer of the city to garnishment in the Youngtcrtiort matter
was read by the recorder.
The matter of improving Pittsburg street to the boat lauding wns
thoroughly discussed and it was the sense of the council that it should
be improved at once, or at least before the rainy season sets in so as to
make a good road from the ferry lauding to the city, also good sidewalks
for foot passengers.
