Neither game was good to look at. Too many errors and too many bad plays oc curred on both sides to make it in teresting for the handful of specta tors present. There seemed to be a lack of life and ginger and thsgamc had no snap in it. Whether it was because the locals anticipated a pic nic or whether the hot weather was responsible the playing of the Apos tles was not up to the staudurd. A bit of stupid base running in the third spoiled a good chance of scoring several runs on the part of the lo cals. The bases were full and one man out. The batter knocked n jxi fly to pitcher who muffed it. The man on third hugged the base until he saw the ball was not caught and then made a dash for the home plate when he did not have a ghost of a show to make it. lie either did not know the batter was out whether the infield fly was caught or not, else it was a case of very bad judgment. One feature, how ever, is the fact that not an earned run was made on either side. The scoter credited St. Johns with i iutl the Cubs with a, but they were in each instance assisted around the circuit ou a base on balls, hit by the pitcher or an error by a player. At the end of the seventh iuiiiug the j score stood fi to 3 in the Cubs' favor. The afternoon game was rather 'of the bUrlesdue order in which cr-j Irors and mispliiys ran riot.
