When seen at his place of busi ness Tuesday morning and asked in regard to his plans as to the gov ernment of the city, Mayor elect Couch said: "I hope to work in larmony with all members of the council and give the city a clean, ud business like administration. It is a little too early to outline our plans, I do not know what to say 11 regard to the city hall, as I do not know just what sliac it is in, 1 Something should be done at once, however. Mayor-elect Couch and the senior editor of The Review came 111 for a portion of the fuu and never lost an opportunity to banter each other. One day while Mr. Couch was in The Review office he met several of his own workers and also a few of Mr. Nor ton's. To make Mr. Couch feel good the senior editor hurled the following at him: "The next day after election I am going to tack your hide up thereon the walll" 1 he remark never jarred the candidate for the mayoralty. He just smiled one of his large smiles and resumed the bantering. But the next morning after election i , began to think of u few things that 1 . . . . . 1 - , no had been te d. Amoiit' f irm was something about a hide He at once decided to go into the business himself. hid Accordingly he procured n bear hide, a hammer aud a handful of nails. Mounted on a box he nailed the hide to the outside of his store building. Over his handiwork he placed n placard with letters a foot high bearing the inscription: '.McKcon's Hide!" Then he jour neyed to The Ueview oflice to lead his victim to view his supposed epidermis. Couch led the way, followed by the crestfallen joslier uud u large crowd. Turning his victim around he wi!ntel to the side of the building uud remarked: "There's nil that's left of yon hair side out!" Then everybody whooed her up for Couch. To couiK)iiud his hilatity the mayor had a photograph of his work taken together with himself standing under it, uud 011 his breast he wore u placard beating the words: "The man who skinned him!" Von are ull right, Mayor Couch! The goods are yours I This is the season when the pre siding angel of the household prowls through the rooms, attired in n mother huhbard uud nil old handkerchief, viciously swatting in all directions with a mop or broom. McKinuey, the real estate man at St. Johns Heights, has n coin that will make many take oh" their hats when it comes to n mutter of age. Mr. McKiuuey's coin bears the date of 13a). It is of copjter, and contains the inscription "Sultautate of Bruuie" 011 one side. On the reverse side there are characters that 110 one can decipher.
