With several companions Olson come up town Sunday morning and went to Portland. He returned late in the afternoon considerably under the influence of liquor. In grotm- ing his way along the wharf he lost his balance and fell. When picked up he was quite dead. Olson shipped on the Alpena at San Francisco several weeks oiro. He was well known along the coast. having been employed on coastwise boats for the past doeu years. He was a member of the Sailors' Union, who look charge of the body ami gave it burial. Olson was 46 years of age and unmarried. So far as known he ins no relatives in this country. At the inquest held by Coroner Finlcy a verdict was rendered that 'Drink was the cause of death. R. It is only a question of a very short time before a suitable pave incut for Jersey street will have to be provided. Only a little over a year ago the sheet was treated to a heavy coat of gravel. Although this coat of gravel is about two feet thick, it is beginning to sink and break up. As at present treated the street will not Maud heavy trnllic. GOn NEW BOAT Being Built for the St. Johns Ferry Company On the heavy plank driveway that leads from the ferry lauding n new sidewheel boat is now being built for use of the ferry. A tem porary shed has been elected so that work may continue without interruption. It is the intention to have the boat in commission by March t. An exjtert boat builder is in charge of the work. The new boat will have a carry ing capacity for six teams 011 the lower deck. 1 he passenger cabin will be on the uniier deck. Both ends of the boat will be sharp, oh- atlug the necessity ot turning oil each trip. It is the intention of the owners to build and equip the boat in first class style and to render up to date service. In all probability a regular ser vice will be established between St. Johns mid Liiiiiton.
