C. Adams during the recent assault and battery trial, was brought up n second time. The bill was for professional services ordered by Municipal Judge Thorn dyke. 1 lie liuauce committee was in doubt as to whether the city was liable, ami asked the opinion of the citv attorney, who stated that, pri- mar.ly, the city was responsible for its payment. Several members thought the charge excessive, others could not understand why the city could be held responsible for the transactions or the municipal court, etc. It was finally decided to cut the bill in two, ami a warrant was ordered drawn for $5. A communiciatioii was received from A. I). McDonald in regard to the building he is now constructing 011 Jersey street. He stated that the present south side of the build ing was only 11 temporary affair, as he intended erecting another build ing in the very near future, and asked that he be allowed to cover it with corrugated iron. N An inquiry by the recorder as to what was to be done in regard to the acceptance of a street through the Cnples tract from Jersey street to Willamette boulevard brought out the fact that the city is with out an engineer. Several parties have looked the proposition over with that object in view, but as yet nothing definite has Ih'cii done toward constructing one. At a meeting of the St. Johns Citizens Hand Monday evening a new leader was selected to fill the vacancy caused by the assignation of Mr. Wright, ami other officers were also elected, Frank Chipmaii is the new leader selected, and an exterienced instructor will soon take charge of the organization.
