the additional school room has
brought out many suggestions. One
of the best is that it would he a wise
move to secure a suitable site or
sites for the additional buildings
soon to be needed. At present the
direction in which the city wi
grow is a conundrum. Hut that It

can be secured for a nominal sum

be found is unanswered.
The matter of fire protection for
the industries along the water front

one, but two lines of hose, in case
it is necessary. At present thete

provement!! Ordered.
With the exception of Aid. Hew
itt all inenil crs were in their seats
when Mayor Valentine called the
council to order at the regular meet
ing Tuesday night. The minutes
of the last meeting were read and
approved.
1 W. Prasp, one of the lessees
of Cedar Park, again appeared be
fore the council to protest against
paying the city for policing Cedar
Park. On motion of Aid. WaJ!
the park management was exempted
from paying for police service ex
cept when extra police were needed
at the park
phone company ought to be granted
a franchise. He was in favor of
the council being liberal in the
matter.
Cochran & Co. were awarded the
contract for the improvement of
Hayes street at 27 cents less than
the engineer's estimate.
Gee & Co. were awarded the
grading on Turlington street at the
figures estimated by the engineer.
The improvement of Monteith
street brought out two bids one
from S. W. Simmons & Co. for the
entire improvement and one from J.
H. Hlack for building the sidewalk.
The n rtter was laid over to the ad
journed meeting Wednesday night.
The bids for constructing the
dewalks 011 Chicago and Hurling
n streets nud for the improvement
of I.eavitt street were ordered re-
advertised.

council was ordered to insect the
condition of the hydrants and mains
along the water front with a view
of giving that locality all the fire
